For the Many who seemed to have Jumped Ship

it's a repost, but it probably needed to be reposted anyways...

I'll admit, I've been critical and even had posts that could be regarded as "homer"-like... but even if GT lost every single game this season, I would still be a ramblin' wreck and I'd still go to games.

I went to Charlottesville a couple of weekends ago (for a non-football related trip) and UVA was playing TCU. After the game, and even on Sunday, people still wore their orange. We think they suck, but the fans don't. They still sang the fight song in the square after the game, they still ate and laughed and bought merchandise in the cool little market street they've got there. They lost, partied anyways, and moved on.

We lost one game, and we don't have a perfect team, but it's better than what most have and even if we hit rock-bottom, I don't care.

Go Jackets!

Miami game was a perfect storm of:

missed assignments on O
3 games in 12 days
overconfidence
no defense

and a motivated opponent

this is a bigger reason for a loss than most give credit for... especially when the other team isn't motivated.

everybody is motivated every week. These are, for the most part, thorobred athletes that have trained and practiced and worked exceedingly hard for years to be on the field. Ain't nobody not motivated. That's what Coach Johnson was saying today when he alluded that "want to" is not enough. You have to be coached, and directed, and placed in a position to perform correctly. Motivation is important--even Virginia's players are motivated--but motivation takes you just so far. And apparently their fan base is a tad more laid back and accepting than ours. Maybe that is why Virginia has zero championships.

Agree 100%. The motivation factor is just one really big excuse to hide what you did poorly. It can account for maybe coming out and getting hit in the mouth unexpectedly, but not being beaten over four quarters.

No, the triple option has been figured out. It's so obvious. Let's fire Johnson. I mean we aren't even ranked now, and that's what most important.

I disagree with this wholeheartedly. Do you really think that our guys are as pumped up and mentally focused when they play Jacksonville State as they are when they play UGAy? Absolutely not. Just because they play football doesn't mean that they aren't passionate about the game just like the rest of us are. Illustration: Are the stands as full for Duke as they are for UGAy? Is the crowd noise as loud for UVA as it is for UGAy? No way and they never will be. The players motivation and heart can be estimated on the same scale as the fans' IMO and will be much higher for bigger games. That said, if you believe that Miami hasn't had that game on their minds since last November, you are sorely mistaken. Motivation and the desire for "revenge" was a HUGE factor in the game last Thursday just the same as it will be for us when we play UGAy in November.

So are you predicting a big Tech win this weekend?

I don't know about a big win, but I would bet that our guys will be thirsty to avenge last year's loss. Not as much in this game as it was the other way around against Miami, but I'm sure they haven't forgotten what happened last year and that that will play at least some kind of role in their preparation for Saturday.

Totally disagree.

For anyone who's played sports before, especially football, you know this is a part of it. It's never discussed, but you can feel it.

The week leading up to big games, practice is crisper, everyone is jacked, and it's not surprise you play well those weeks.

Then there's the week you're playing po-dunk-ville, and you're not as crisp, you're not as pumped, and you don't play as well.

This stuff happens, alot. There is such a thing as a "trap" game, and USC just experienced it.

You think Washington has anything near the athletes USC does? Hell no, but they played up ,and USC played down, and Washington won.

It happens. It's not a myth.

I think I could get it with just one 'ol'.

I believe that Miami had this on their minds for a long time. I also believe that if our team can't get motivated for a nationally televised Thursday night game that would have put us in the top 10, we should just not show up to the rest of the games. You're not going to get a bigger game for us all season than that one, at least in terms of the team's success. That was a HUGE game for whoever won it, and I think you are sorely mistaken if the players weren't acutely aware of that, ESPECIALLY after they supposedly weren't motivated or "let their foot off the gas" for the first two games.

Looking back on it, I felt a Miami win over FSU meant a Miami win over us.

Look back at last year. Miami is at home playing their first Thursday night game. They were something like 1-0 or 2-0. I had never seen them look so good. They thought they were back and believed it. I think they KILLED N.C. State, iirc.

A perfect sh*t-storm hit us last thursday....but the 12 day thing wasn't part of it.

Miami executed.
GT did not.

It happens in college football. Get over it. We have 9 winable reg season games left. Lets go kick some ass!

Define "Jumped Ship."

I don't think we're very good this year. Doesn't mean I've jumped ship though.
