Frank Beamer’s first 6 Teams At VPI Went 2-9,

In the last 40 years, 28 different coaches can lay claim to a national title. Of those, Bill McCartney is the only one who didn't have a winning record in his first three seasons. Many on this board would even argue he doesn't count since WE won the national title that year.

Other than Bill McCartney, only 2 other coaches didn't have double digit wins within their first 3 full years. Don James and Lavell Edwards. Both of which did have 9 win seasons before their first double digit win season though. In fact nearly every championship coach wins a title within the first 3 years, most are double digit wins within 2 years.

Beamer's success (without a national title) was the exception, not the rule.
GTRules would have you think otherwise

So, what you’re saying is that by year #3, Beamer managed to win 6 games and get bowl eligible?

come back around when Geazzy Geoff can sniff five.

Two hundred and farty four years ago, people were still riding horses around. Take that, ya sissies.

3-8, 6-4-1, 6-5, 5-6, & 2-8-1. How would y’all feel if Collins did that?
After that he had a bunch of 8-11 win seasons. Of course he had a great DC.
So 6 wins his 3rd year. Only 4 losses. I'd be OK if CGC did that this year. If Collins has a winning record next year, I'd give him two more mulligans.
