From the eyes of a 12 year old

Mac,
I think I understand the situation you are in since I've seen it before. BUT!! remember this one thing. What are you teaching your son with your THWT attitude? Why do you consider yourself to be a loyal GT fan? Because of your financial donations? alumni? family before you? or could it be due to the fact that Ga Tech is THE greatest school in Georgia? Are you losing your affiliation, loyalty, love, etc for GT simply because of the fair to good football standing? Sounds like it to me. And what are you teaching your son by baling out because the football season hasn't met your expectations? And if you and your son switch to supporting another school's team, what will you do if that team goes into a slump? This is not meant to be a flame to you but it is meant to be a reality check. If you are offended by my post, I sincerely appologize for being offensive. BUT, since your son is involved here, please think long and hard about what he will be seeing in you. We all want to be a part of a winning program, whether it be sports, academics, or whatever. Now is a good opportunity for you to set an example for your son by showing him what loyalty is really all about. HANG TOUGH MAN !! IT'LL PAY OFF SOON.

I have not been to a game since 51-7 act 1. The AA showed me they did not want any part of me so we can get along with out each other
The saddest part is I am jealous of UGA. They were not afraid to change coaches. They were not afraid of a younger man with personality and enthusiasm
This elitist attitude and the GTAA make it damn near impossible for any hi-school kid to be a Tech fan

Noone said "force" them to be a Tech fan.

If it were my son - I would tell him that losing is a part of sports and a part of life. It's how you respond to it that determines what kind of person you are. You can run away from it or you can take steps to correct it.

As a fan, you can let DB or CCG know that you're not happy with the effort or how the team responded after they were "punched in the mouth". Or you can take the easy route and find another team.

Now if he still decides that GT isn't the right team - then no problem, I've done my part.

GSUjacket....guess you know where the hell you can

go...you are certainly entitled to your beliefs, but now to refer to Tech alums/fans as "nerds" (check you spelling...oh, forgot, you went to GSU). We don't need support from "fans" like you...bye!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/behead.gif

She understands that..2 years of Tball 2 of softball, competetive chearleading, she just likes LSU more. Nothing wrong with that. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/drinking.gif

To hell with you then traitor, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out...

Those clowns in the Tech AA are not Tech men and women for the most part, they are bureaucrats hired as favors to someone or because they knew someone from before. They are coasting and living large off of the rich inheritance of Tech tradition. They are "suitors of Penelope" (The Oddyssey).

Its time for real Tech men and women, alumni and friends, to stand firm and demand better and run out these imposters.

Hope that was directed to herbee /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/drinking.gif

Re: MacDaddy.....

GSU Jacket,

Do whatever you want. If you weren't a sidewalk fan of Tech, you would never be in a position to pick another team to pull for.
My suggestion for you is to go out and buy a dozen different hats.

True fans don't have a choice. They are what they are.

I have never been as upset as I am today. I used to get mad about losing, but this goes much deeper than that. I may walk away from being a Tech fan because of their quitting yesterday, but if do I will walk away from college football period.

Re: Truly Sad ....

How about that Cycle. I had the same experience that year but if you will recall that team suffered through a horrendous series of injuries. Lenny Snow broke his leg returning a kickoff in the Miami game for example. Point is those guys never quit on their coach or their school. This team has quit at least 3 times and it is a direct reflection of the head coach who stands there with his arms folded looking utterly clueless as though he was about to witness a trainwreck that he was powerless to prevent.

Believe me I can relate to how your son feels. Growing up a Tech fan was not easy and now being a Uga alumni it never ends. "Why don't you pull for your school, a team with a decent football team." I hear this all the time, I say because Tech is in my blood and it will never change.

I remember the 1-10 season under Bill Lewis, I was there for Ross's 2-9 season. With any program there are ups and downs, the only differnce is now the higher ups at Tech are ok with the downs.

Re: It was directed at MacDaddy2

I am loyal to, in order, God, Family and country. Tech not listed! Any other team, not Listed!

Sir, you call me a traitor. You donate the kind of money I have and then you can question me.

Until then, you can go to hell! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/FIREdevil.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/FIREdevil.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/FIREdevil.gif

Uh oh! Your state is not listed, either. Thus, you are a traitor to the state of Georgia as well as Georgia Tech. And, I suppose you root for the Blue in the Blue-Gray game, too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbdn.gif

So, you are only considered a real fan if you are able and actually do donate as much money as possible? I know plenty of people who have donated absolutely nothing that haven't given up yet. A real fan does not give up when the going gets rough. A bandwagon fan does...

Way to inspire your kids..."Comon daddy, let's go root for USC because they seem pretty hot right now."

Be pissed about the game, pissed at the coaches, pissed at whoever you want. But to teach your kid to tuck tail and run is definitely not the right example to be setting. Do something constructive instead, like voicing yours, and his, opinions.

Re: It was directed at MacDaddy2

SM ..Maybe we feel like a jilted lover .. GT just left us for another .. I wanted a good life but GT just wanted an ez lay whore ... now I can date again

Re: It was directed at MacDaddy2

Let the kid go cheer for someone else. When you go to a game, leave his/her butt at home. I pull only for GT. I am frustrated by GT.

I have attended other CFB games, but I can't imagine pulling for one of them. I just think the Wreck busting through the banner is the greatest thing in CFB.

BTW, attended the Peach bowl last night. About the only thing that went Miami's way was when LSU scored and the cheerleaders ran across the field with the flags spelling: T I G R E S

LSU's band is huge, BTW.

Re: It was directed at MacDaddy2

The original post by McDaddy is one of the saddest, most heart wrenching things I have ever read on this forum. Those of you who are critical either do not have children or worse do not see the heartfelt misery this man is going through. Think about it. The two things he loves the most are at odds with each other because of a damn football game. I am a high school teacher and if more of my students' parents showed the compassion and willingness to listen to their child that this man does I would have very few discipline problems, drug and alcohol problems etc. A side note I would not be at all surprised to see the boy go to another school but eventually become a lifelong Tech fan. It happened to me and countless others on this forum. One day he just might "yell to hell with Georgia like his daddy used to do."
