I am fairly new to this board. I have only been reading it since the beginning of the season. This is my 1st post. I would like to say a few things to help get rid the bad taste of this season.

I have been a Tech fan all my life. I played college ball at Furman for Dick Sheridan because I was told I was too small to play at Tech. I am glad I played at Furman because we tied Tech, and should have beaten them, which is why I thought it was good for Bill Curry to leave a few years later. But I have followed Tech football since I was a kid. I love the school and the tradition. It is special.

I was happy when Tech hired Gailey. I thought it was a good hire on paper. I thought with his resume he had to be good. I like the man, especially since he is a Christian, but something has to change. He can't just sit there and expect to do the same thing next year as this year. Implement some new ideas, new coaches, but do something. I could have lived with McWhorter getting the job, but one game doesn't mean much in my opinion. If you remember what got Bill Lewis hired at Tech? ECU's dramatic win over NC State in the Peach Bowl. But at this stage i think maybe Mc surely couldn't have done worse. But you can say if, if what if. Gailey is the coach.

I don't claim to know much about football, but I do know when I see gutless football played. I can accept getting beat by a better team, I can accept making mistakes and learning from them, but my gosh it seems like this coaching staff isn't learning.
Some things that concen me:
1. Both blowouts-Maryland and UGA came after weeks off. If it is true what the newspaper reported-and I know you can't believe everything, why did Tech practice for only 2 days those weeks? I can understand not doing any contact, but my gosh, shouldn't they have been working on fudamentals at least, like catching balls, running routes, etc? They may have needed the rest before the UGA game but they could have rested after the game. This staff seems so ill prepared. Some of the logic they use makes no sense offensivley. You sit there and at least try to understand what they are doing and i get more confused as the season went on. When I played they used to always stress to us, get better, are you getting better today. They wanted us to gt better every week as the season went on.
2. I hope this is not a bad omen, but if you remember when Tech lost to FSU that one year in the last seconds, Tech never did recover mentally. It looked like the loss to FSU this year had the same repercusions. They came out flat against Duke, UGA, and Freso. There was also a quarterback controversy during that time too, just like there appears to be now.
3. All the beards, ear rings, etc is nothing but individuality. This is just my opinion. When I played we weren't allowed to have facial hair, ear rings, etc during the season. I think it helps with discipline.
4. This is the worst of all. But it appears that the team overall has quit. If it is true that some players quit in the UGA game, I would have told them they either need to transfer or they can sit the bench because they won't play at Tech again. Get some walk-ons out there. Yea, you still may get beat even worse, but show some guts.
5. The talent is not as good as we thought we had. Other teams are getting better in the league with the exception of maybe Tech, Clemson, and UNC. I do agree that Gailey did not inherit that great of talent, but Tech still should have better talent than say Boise State or Air Force, but Air Force would kick out buts...

This season has been very disappointing. I am not renewing my season tickets. Its not based on what happened this year but it is the straw that broke my back. Last year was just as disappointing as this year to me. Of all the years 99 had to be the most frustrating to me because if Tech would have had a decent defense they could have done some great things. I guess I could be more optimistic but I don't see what use there is. For those of you who think that getting Hollings back is going to make a big differnce, I don't see it. From what I've seem, Tech is losing the battle on the line of scrimmage. If you don't block for the backs, they can't do anything.

I hope Tech can bounce back next year, but its going to take alot for them to believe in themselves now after the beatings they have taken. Coaching does make a differnce. After the UGA game, several nights later, ESPN showed a replay of the Tech-FSU game in 2000. It brought back great memories of that game. I sat there again and marveled at a 23 point underdog take it to FSU and had FSU on their heels. They lost, yes, but I was proud of them. Will those days ever come back?

Dick Sheridan is like Jim Grobe at Wake Forest, both are excellent at coaching material upward. Both have won many ball games against more talented teams.
