Four schools that have won natties in the past 20 years. In fact, six championships between them in the last 20 years. But none in the past six years.
Four schools that should be looking for new head football coaches by the end of the year. Although Florida may be in denial and hang onto Mullen another year. But it's just a matter of time for him, and I believe that once you reach the "it's-just-a-matter-of-time" stage . . . it IS time. They really should move on.
Anyway, if you were a football coach with your pick of these jobs, which one would you take, and why? And which one is the worst and why?
I would pick USC. They have underachieved for the longest time, their fan base does not have insane expectations, they play in a conference with no other dominant power (in fact, they used to BE the dominant power), and they're located in a fertile talent field with fewer high end regional competition for that local talent. A good coach who could assemble an A+ recruiting team should be able to turn USC into a monster. With Hollywood and other media companies in Kali, they really should be able to get big NIL money for their recruits, too.
Worst job IMO would be FSU. Way, way, way too much competition for the local talent base in Florida and gulf coast, and they are never going to be the number one options compared to UF, Bama, UGA, and even Miami. Even Texas A&M is apparently a more attractive job.
