There is an absolutely 0% chance that Georgia Tech makes this bowl game in the exact same circumstances.

Shame on FSU / ACC / NCAA for missing this. Shouldn't they have a guy(s) checking this kind of stuff?

There is some precedent for this. In 2012, Georgia Tech went 6-7 with a loss in the ACCCG, and successfully applied for a waiver and went to the Sun Bowl (and beat USC). They only qualified for the ACCCG because both Miami and North Carolina were postseason ineligible that year, and so the NCAA approved the waiver as it seemed unfair they be punished for playing in the ACCCG. Both Louisiana Tech and Middle Tennessee were eligible that year, but stayed home. Louisiana Tech had an offer from a bowl, but turned it down through a miscommunication in which they expected a better bowl, but Middle Tennessee did not receive an offer from any bowls.

The season before, 2011, UCLA was 6-6 and made the Pac12 Championship game because USC was ineligible for post season play. UCLA lost and also got a waiver to play in a bowl game. The weird thing is that CC games count as post season but also apparently affect bowl eligibilty. It wasn't our fault or UCLA's fault that USC, UNC, and Miami decided to cheat on a massive scale. We still won 6 qualifying games regular season. FSU didn't.

The whole theory got debunked when it was realized Delaware st. was indeed an eligible win for bowl eligibility. People forgot to add the academic scholarships with the athletic scholarships and they pass the 90% mark. Reddit just wasn't calculating the academic ones.
