fumble fest

Blair may have the best leg overall and an upside in regards to fielding but this kid Cody Hutchings (PK) bears looking at.

Washington outplayed Shaw, I bet he'll pass him on the depth chart before September.

O-Line looked really bad. Scott Blair needs to find a new direction in life, football just isn't working out.
Interesting. Both teams had over 400 yards of total offense, but the OL looked really bad. Looked to me from the film on RR.com that it was a typical spring game...the O won some plays and the D blew up some. Kind of what you should expect.

Also, way to support SAs there. Maybe you're the one who needs a new direction in life.

Yeah, I think he was the one who blocked for the fumble at the end of the FSU game.

Not sure if that's possible. Don't know why our kicker would be blocking with the defense, unless your describing a different fumble.

As for Blair....anyone who say what happened after that dropped punt will know what I mean, but I'm pretty sure there's going to be a certain foot-to-ass situation going on for his improvement. That or someone beats him out of it.

hmm, I thought Blair was in there for some reason... I think I'm thinking of another save he made. Can't remember what.

He might of saved a kickoff/punt return from becoming a touchdown and it is a skill that can be handy when it happens but we really shouldn't be depending on him for it.

There is a kid what was there from my high school (Apalachee) name jon lee (running back) he is like marcus wright kind of guy but little bigger. So what i heard is that he is a done deal if we offer

Thanks for the link. Exactly what I was looking for...

With that said and after watching it... I'm wondering if there is a separate OFFENSIVE highlight video coming later. I was kind of expecting a few big yardage TDs or something. First third of the video was definitely highlights of fumbles.

Definitely, good to see some of the new plays that's been implemented though.

T-Day Game Report

As the OP implies, there were a lot of fumbles on BOTH sides of the ball, not just Jaybo.

Several overall impressions. The O's generally looked good. The second looked better than the first O, but here's why: Nesbitt didn't play at all, Dwyer played the first series or two, but no more, and Cox didn't play at all. That's three hosses off the unit, and still they put up over 400 and 28 points with probably five turnovers.

We passed the ball a LOT. You could tell we had been working on the passing game this spring. Passes were to every zone on the field. Bebe, Cone, Reese, Sims and Greco all made catches at the WR position. Roddy, Peeples and Allen made some nice catches from the back position. The DB made some nice plays, but got beat/outmuscled for the ball a few times. Didn't see Coop or Burnett playing, and that may be why.

The speed is a good bit faster than last year. They have gotten better. Some of the fumbles, I think, were due to the speed. Several new running plays I saw, the WR reverse was particularly effective. Lots of the same stuff, too. DC's just won't want to prepare for us this year. Reminded me of the good ole days with Myers, Lanier, ELI, Sims, Head, Moriarity and Rucker.

Overall, good day offensively.

As for units: The DL's were a bit inconsistent (and I suppose that means the same for the OL's). Some plays they penetrated well, on others they overpursued or got blown up. I think we need to expect that they will be a bit like our LB corp from last year. They are quick, but undersized. They will struggle aginst the bigger OL this fall.

As I mentioned above, the DB was good one play and off the next. Toward the end, Shaw totally overlooked a wide open A-back down the middle and threw into double coverage for an almost INT incomplete. The very next play, again Roddy was open right down the middle and Shaw saw him and hit him for about a 50 yard play to the 5.

The RB's are a studly group! We have us some serious players in that corps.

The WR's are definitely better at blocking. Some bone crushers out there today.

LB's looked much more consistent to me. That is good. BJ Machen made a couple of nice hits.

Individually: Edwards looked good at the wolf position. Made several good hits. Wright is just a fireball! That young man will do anything, and he looks good. Allen ran like crazy! He will make us even tougher this fall.

Yes, there were some rough parts, and some thigns we need to continue to work on, but overall it looked good for a spring game. This is going to be a good season. I'm pumped.

That video is made of first quarter highlights pretty much. The 1st quarter was by far the sloppiest.

Marcus Wright is a helluva short. Also, anyone think Washington may become the second string QB in the fall?

I really don't understand how people anoint 1 QB better than another. Last year it was all "Replace Josh with Jaybo" which was ridiculous. This year, it seems "Replace Jaybo with Tevin", although Washington played well, he played against a COMPLETELY different defensive unit (#2). There is nothing to be gained by comparing Jaybo's performance with Tevin's because they played in completely contrasting scenarios.

I'm not anointing anyone, but anyone who claims that Jaybo is "clearly" ahead of Tevin, or "by far and away" the #2 guy, wasn't watching on T day. We will lose starting Jaybo vs anyone good this year. We may lose starting Tevin vs anyone good this year. That's the difference between the two in my eyes.

Jaybo does seem to call his own number quite alot instead of giving/tossing to one of our stable of backs. Hmm...I wonder what the coaches think about this? I'm sure they're aware of it. Jaybo needs to give it up more often and roll out to pass, in the flats and downfield. IMO.

To be fair, part of that is the defense overplays the pitch because they're not afraid of letting him run.

I had not considered this, but you may be right. That still doesn't explain why Jaybo gets hit behind the line more than others. I think he needs to dish it a little more... but without the fumbles.

As for the Jaybo/Tevin debate, the bottom line is we really need Nesbit to win consistently.

Others have just said that Tevin LOOKED better than Jaybo during the T-day game. It is obvious to me that Tevin has far more of a learning curve to overcome this spring than Jaybo becaue of the lack of playing time last year. It sounds like he is working hard to catch up pretty quickly.

Regardless, I like that both Jaybo and Tevin are competiting each other for the #2 spot.
