I was at a work Christmas party with a guy who is a mutt, albeit a very good mutt. He and I have great conversations about college ball. Anyway, the conversation got around to Stafford and Moreno leaving, and he said wttte: "well, the AJC already has them gone. But that's not odd, it's such a Tech homer rag..." I didn't hear anything he said after that, I was chocking on the baklava so bad.

Makes you go, "Hmmm."

Every team's fans thinks ESPN hates them, every team's fans thinks their local newsrag is against them and all for their rival.

It's not just us.

Unless you are a fan of the Red Sox or Yankees or the Big 10 ESPN does hate your team.

The Dawgs and Jackets have one thing in common... we both hate the AJC. This is nothing shocking. The Dawgs think its a Tech paper and we think its a Dawg paper.

Their reporting is piss-poor all the way around. The columns are often pure fluff pieces except for the the writings of a couple of guys like Bisher. The beat reporting is nondescript at best. It seems to lack detail and often seems to resemble an AP recap without the accuracy. Speaking of accuracy, the headline writers have none at all.

The only positive of the AJC is that it's not as much of a joke in its respective media market as the LA Times is.

AJC editors are purely into provocation to get readers. It is a very negative approach to journalism. They play up all the UGAg arrests and underachievement like they are Tech fans. They play up Tech's late season fades and inconsistency like they are UGAg fans. Their headline writers are horrible. The beat writers for Tech now are really OK, but Schultz, Bradley and Moore are just arrogant jerks most of the time - although lately they have been real nice for some reason... Rad maybe?

I view the AJC sports section as the New York Post of the South. The only difference is that some of the NYP beat writers also serve as columnists and some of them have clear and consistent agendas. The provocation point is a good one though. Sensationalism is the name of the game, but some of us just want a damn article. At least in New York, you've got other reading options. Here, the AJ and the AC were never completely separate entities during most of our lifetimes, but regardless, we have to go to Macon.com for a decent Atlanta sports page.
