Gailey hitches his HC job to Suggs

Don't shoot the messenger (Hollis) on this one. Is anybody really surprised Gailey is treating Suggs like a Heisman trophy candidate in spring practice? He played Suggs against Duke even though he had the flu and infected wisdom tooth. He has stubbornly stuck with Suggs even though he's thrown more interceptions than touchdowns even though we played a number of shaky pass defenses. He is rated 9th in the ACC behind an option quarterback. Gailey simply does not know how to handle a talented quarterback. Look at his history (Cowboys).

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">That is a simply ridiculous statement. He coaches in the NFL and NCAA ranks for 30 years and you say he does not know how to handle QB's? Good grief!...what about Kordell Stewart, John Elway, Jay Fiedler? The problem with Aikman is he is a big baby...and was gimpy the two years Gailey was in Dallas.

Obviously you know a lot about QB's...how many years have you coached in the NFL? :-)

Maybe my memory is foggy, but I don't recall either Kordell Stewart or Jay Fiedler having what you would call stellar seasons under CG's tutelage.

KORDELL STEWART QB rating-75.2 under CG(21TD-17INT)

Jay Fiedler rating-80.3 under CG (20 TD-19 INT)

Would someone please clarify? When did CG say that, to whom and how was it reported? If true, then I think maybe we need to start to look for a new coach now! Hopefully we are not in for a repeat of the BL episode. Did CG not say (as was reported here on ST) that we would no longer have just a drop back passer? So what the hay gives?

like I said earlier I think CG is just saying this b/c he currently has no other horses in the stable.

I do not believe AJ will be the only QB playing in the Auburn game.

It may be a platoon situation where a TRUE freshman or Bilbo get SIGNIFICANT playing time.

The attributed statement made by CCG is one of the reasons the man gives me the "willies". He is worse than politicans in double talk. What the heck is the GT nation to believe? He says one thing on radio and another in the print media.

Maybe DB should recheck his resume for accuracy.

The man IMHO has no clue in PR spin. Give us a break with Coach speak CCG for we all love GT. We can take honest evaluations of personnel but not the current "skata" you promulgate to the different media outlets.

You friends of CCG please give some rationale for this statement for I can find none except double talk.

Well goodness. This is one of those articles that people with speculate and speculate, and probably a zillion rumors will start and next thing you know fans on the web will think the rumors are fact.

Well, Gailey overruled his own offensive coordinator when it came to keeping Bilbo in the Wake Forest game. Bill O'Brien had been working with both QB's longer than Gailey had. Unlike you, I don't have blind faith in the so-called "experts". I look at the results on the field. Gailey said that AJ would prove the naysayers wrong going into the Duke and UGA games. Tech averaged a whopping 12 points per game in those 2 games.

Fiedler sucked because he sucks. But he was the only QB Miami had and Gailey did what he could with him. Gailey is also universally given credit for Kordell's good years and Elway has always been positive about CG. Aikman just wasn't willing to change what had been working under previous coaches, even though he didn't have the line or weapons he had before. Gailey was actually trying to feature Troy more, Aikman just didn't want to go along with it.

And on the information thing. With all the scorn we heap on the media in general and the AJC in particular, why would you want our HC to spend more time with them? Personally I hope he continues to give them just what he has to and keeps all personnel decisions/thoughts to himself. I believe that stuff needs to stay within th team. And no, I don't think fans deserve anything else. We're not in that locker room and don't need to know what's going on in there.

I wouldn't mention Fiedler when trying to say Gailey is good. As a Dolphin fan I can tell he sucked while Gailey was there and was basically a glorified backup.

I have friends in Miami who have had Dolphin season tix for over 20 years. When Gailey took this job they told me they were very excited he was leaving the Dolphins ... they were not happy with him there.

I did not like this hire for Tech but tried to maintain some objectivity ... that was until we started playing for real and reality set in, the rest is history because we've all discussed this many times over!

Of course, now the Dolphin fans are complaining about their new O coordinator. They have been complaining since their ONE super bowl under Marino so I don't know that means much.

Where yellowjacket? I suggest you check out any of the Dolphin boards out there. Try nfl.com for one.

Or are you referring to something else I said? I am long on opinions. I thought everybody who bothered to post was. If my facts are off please let me know, I've retracted stuff before.

NC Jacket I agree with yellowjacket. Norv Turner is at the Ralph Friegen level. Fiedler went down (who they were winning with) and they had no backup to come in like Philly. I don't know anybody complaining about Norv Turner but I do here his name mentioned for open coaching positions. When CG was in Miami he was going to run even though they had no running back and could not run. In Dallas he did not match the personel he had and tried to force his style. Now at Tech he is forcing the same thing and not matching his talent. And I don't consider Suggs (his choice) talent. He can't even hit the dinks out of the backfield let alone downfield. Change the offense or change the player. It ain't working now.

davetech, all I know is the few Dolphin boards I visited are all over the coaching staff. Primarily Wannstead but turner has come in for some abuse as well. And CGs name was coming up for open positions while he was in Miami so what's different about that and Turner's? Most of the comments I've heard about the Dallas situation center around trying to change their offense because of the personnel changes. They couldn't continue to do what had been successful for them w/o the receivers and line they had before.

BTW I've said numerous times I would rather see Bilbo at QB. The difference with me is I assume that coaches want to play the guys who give them the best chance to win so something must be wrong with Bilbo that we as fans don't see. swilling on the hive has made several statements about Bilbo's work habits which could explain things.

Bilbo may have poor work habits. I have not seen him screw up badly the little that he played to keep him on the bench. AJ didn't do it this year and its very likey he will be no better next year. Something has to change at the QB spot or we won't win.

Wannstead deserves to be yelled at. He is an idiot when it comes to coaching. I don't have a problem with Turner but if the rest of the Dolphins fans are yelling at him then it is probably just spill over from the head coach.
