Jamaal Evans #23 player in Texas and Rivals #4 all purpose back. 5-8, 185lbs and runs sub 4.5.

Great pick up for the Jackets.

Very nice commit. And thankfully we have a good enough group of running backs now that he can get some weight on them, and learn from one another about power/speed. Great job Gailey, now, make sure he tells his friends. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugher.gif

Rivals confirmed it today.

Looking at his video...he is an interesting prospect. While his size does not knock you out...he is a true TB...he knows how to run the ball. He seems to change speeds will to screw up the angles for the defenders...good burst...and he has great hips which he keeps moving at all times. He stays low...holds the ball right...and keeps his pads in front of him.

He is a little more thick than Lavette...more like Mays..except 10-15 lbs. heavier. Hard to compare him to TB's we have had before.

I thought of Mays when I first saw his vids.. I hope he has the heart and guts that Jerry displayed while he played on The Flats.

Great pickup!! Welcome to The Flats Jammal!

Good pickup. Welcome to the flats.

Are we still offering Chris Evans? He's a little bigger back.
Forgot to add Anderson also. What about him?

Looks like if one of these two had better step up if they are going to come to Tech.

We will take whichever between Anderson and Chris Evans commits first.

If I were one of these guys parents, I'd be having a long sitdown tonight and tell him that the train is about to leave the station and their is one seat left. I really like both Evans and Anderson. One, sadly, is likely going to miss out.

As for Jamaal Evans. Good going kid. You've made the right decision with your education.

Tech is not that tough of a decision, IMO. You either want the challenge or you don't.

Congrats to Mr. Evans

Congrats to Chan on a total stud, this kids profile looks great and he's got the stars to back it up. A 4star guy on Rivals while having only 3 stars on scout, you don't see that very often.

Welcome to the flats Jamaal, get ready for Calc I.

Who says Gailey can't recruit? The Evans kid looks like a stud. I love the size and speed of all our commits so far. With Anthony Barnes becoming eligible next year we won't be lacking in the talent department anytime soon. Go Jackets, bring on the Irish! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banana.gif

Anyone who said Gailey can't recruit is just grasping at straws, he messed up his first year by not leaving his NFL responsibilities, can't completely blame him for that but still sucked. We got talent, theres plenty of thing to criticize, but recruiting (overall) isn't one of them.

Sounds a little like Warrick Dunn's old profile. Lets hope he has the same kind of vision on the field.

Exaclty, his profile reads like a pin-ball/finese back that can tip toe his way to 1000+ yd season. Is this kid the Barry Sanders, Warrick Dunn, Darren Sproles type, can't help getting exited about the future of this kid on the flats in CCG's Offense with a matured O-Line.

Considering the impact that true frosh running backs have made around the country in recent years do you all think we should play this kid next year? Or should we leave him to mature like our other 4* back Rashaun Grant.

I think Choice is going to have it locked up next year, from experience/size, but who knows, grant might give him a run come spring. I do hope that Grant gets significant touches this coming season, much like Choice got this year. The running styles are different, but similiar enough to compliment each other nicely and be able to play what the defense gives us a lot more than in years past.

I like the short backs being able to "hide" behind the big Oline before busting out and giving the defense that much less time to react to the play. Makes them have to read the flow of the play more than looking at the back and hopefully give more chance for counters/traps to be successful.

thats what i thought when i read the vitals

dont know if he fits the every-down back profile in Gaileys O, but it seems to me that we have been trying to add an H-back/slot-guy/3rd down back.

while we havent yet displayed strong ability in that area, Chan has a history of favoring this postition as an offensive option. it also (theoretically) helps open up the TE, another favorite of high-percentage possession offense.

with our quick line, this type of back can get through the hole and into the secondary before the LBs can touch him

i hope his blocking skills are good!

Grant will not challenge until he can make it through spring and fall practice without getting injured. This is a yearly occurance.

If this kid is 5'8" tall and weighs in at 185, runs a 4.5, then he must be nothing but muscle. When I was in HS, if a kid was 6' and weighed 180, he would be a stud. We had kids heavier but not due to muscle.

He has stats of a kid I played with in HS.

I played with a guy named Derrek Fitzgerald in High School who was 5-8, 185 lbs and ran a 4.4. His Junior year he was the second best running back in Virginia, Maryland, and D.C. behind Charlie Garner who had a 13 year NFL career. He has offers from almost every school including ND, Tennessee, UF, UVA, Cuse etc. He was like a bowling ball much like Barry Sanders.

His senior year he ended up getting speared in the leg and twisted his knee up. Every school dropped him. He ended up going to William and Mary and broke every rushing record there his freshman year before blowing his knee out which killed his career.

I always thought he made a helluva back because he was quick, could find the holes, was elusive, but especially because at that size you couldn't see him behind the line.

I looked at the video of Evans, and he reminds me of my old teammate. He is an everydown back, not a 3rd down specialist type.

I don\'t disagree, but playing time at RB seems to

fall back to blocking. If a kid can block, he can play every down. If he can't, he will not play every single down.

Sizewise, he is big enough to slow down anybody. But a little bigger wouldn't hurt unless he is abnormally strong where it would matter less.

Of course as the line develops this gets less critical and a pure scatback who can catch can compensate. Rather than block the rusher, he creates an outlet pass that renders the rush less relevant.

You agree?
