Gailey The Offense Alcoholic!

Well but that's the point. All we heard was that O'Brien was the next coming of Friedgen. In reality, O'Brien was just being praised by his boss no differently than we do with our entry level engineers. You train em up but you never really know what you have until they're on their own. O'Brien's career, on his own, has been less than stellar.

Whisenhunt is in the best program in the NFL. Is it him, the Steelers as a company, or Cowher, etc. that makes him successful?

Quite frankly, what tools you give a guy matters too. Not to bash Reggie, but we got stuck with him three years ago. He was excited and hungry for victory and since we didn't have any other choices, we invested three more years into him. One redshirt year may have made a big difference for him, who knows.

I was also convinced that Friedgen could make a good quarterback out of anyone. Well, his quarterbacks the last three seasons have been absolutely positively AWFUL, suggesting that coaching is not such a black and white issue.

I do think however that I could be a good OC at a school like Texas which has the best athletes in the country right now.

100% correct. The experience MD has had the past few years should prove to anyone, especially Tech fans, that it's not all about coaching. That said, I still think we set limits on Reggie that don't help him excel. He does certain things well and we need to build on that. We also need to be sure he's not the central focus of everything we do because he's not that kind of player. It's important that we let him be part of the offense not THE offense. Our running game has got to be a featured part of our attack or we simply will not be successful.

Tech's offense is and has been like Zero Coke. Going nowhere, less than vanilla, a little fizz and that's it.

Reggie in a different program would probably have more positive results. Unfortunately, RB has been a sort of litmus test for the offense over the past few years. Tech hasn't really done anything with RB except teach him how to throw out of bounds. It's just been 'too tough' to teach these kids the option or the shotgun, for pete's sake.

Now that Nix has been appointed/delegated OC are we suppossed to give him 5 years to prove his mettle? Might there be job security involved in the decision making?

Samford and Troy back to back stinks to high heaven. Win impressively and get the press up and then drop disappointing games along the way. The defense should cover their end but what's the offense going to do? Where can there be a vote of confidence?
