Gailey to SMU!!

Franchione - Texas A&M
Nutt - Arkansas
Weis - Notre Dame
Bowden - Clemson
Willingham - Washington
Gailey - Tech
Callahan - Nebraska
Dan Hawkins? - Colorado
Wannstedt? - Pitt

A few of them are "obvious" (Fran and Nutt), so you can take them off the list.

I don't see Weis voluntarily leaving ND, so cross him off.

I don't think Bowden has that much of a disenchanted fan base at the moment, so cross him off.

Out of the other possibilities, I'm not so sure I'd consider any of them a "home run". Hopefully they are talking about Gailey, though...

As silly as it sounds, Gailey does seem like a very viable option out of all those. If the rumor's true at all, that is.

The rumor mill goes round and round. I heard, from someone I consider a reliable source, that CG already has another job and will leave GT after the season.

Maybe relieving GT of the remainder of his contract? I have no idea if it's true but that's what I heard. I heard it the weekend before the VT game.

One can only hope that this is true!

I was just over on the SMU board...

and found out that they were using scatter-guns on their guessing until about 5 minutes ago.
Someone just posted that they would bet $1000
it is Chan Gailey.

(sorry, don't know how to line for those who may be want additional info; actually it kind of interesting reading.)

Tom O'Brien?

As a graduate of SMU, I can tell you the local rumors here in Dallas have been Terry Bowden and Fran. This is the first I have heard Chan's name and I listen to sports talk radio every day.

From the article:

"Hint: The top candidate is a head coach at a BCS school with a disenchanted fan base – and it’s not an obvious choice. He also has ties to the state, having gone to college in Texas as well as a having a coaching stop or two in-state. This candidate also has prior NFL experience."

Gailey went to Florida.

I think that there may be many half truths to a rumored story like this. We don't know for sure if the coach in question has Tx background. Could be some fabrication in there, maybe there isn't.:hsugh:

Interesting you have heard that. I would love to know from who.

gtyellowjackets is Dennis Dodd!!!!

Or is Dennis Dodd his reliable source? Inquiring minds want to know.

It's also been added to the page that the candidate also has prior NFL experience. Not that I think any of this is true - I'm just adding fuel to the fire.

FYI, the only (and I mean only, cause I checked) I-A HC that meets all of the qualifications listed on the webpage is Steve Kragthorpe. Good call whoever mentioned his name before.

college in TX - West Texas, 1985
coached in TX - North Texas OC, 1994-95; Texas A&M QB coach/OC, 1997-2000
NFL experience - Buffalo QB coach, 2001-02
disenfranchised fan base - Louisville, no doubt
