Yet, you blame only him for every loss.
Not going to defende nedleeds in any way, but I think I can explain this thought a little - please hear out my explination (and this may not be nedleeds idea, but at least how I see it).
I kinda see our team as two distinct parts - offense and defense (duh). But seriously, Gailey controls the offense, or at least has his hand some in the offensive planning, whereas it has been documented that he let's Tenuta do his thing (if I am wrong on this my whole thought process goes down the crapper, so please correct me if I am).
In the many scenarios that play out in our football games, we seem to have 2 main scenarios. Many games have been where our offense does so-so/borderline terrible and our defense does great, resulting in a win by us (like the referenced Clemson game). We also have had too many (by my count) games where our offense has been so-so/borderline terrible and our defense does not do good (sometimes terrible). I realize there are other scenarios, but in all of them, rarely (except against samford maybe, VT last year?), does our offense rise above the so-so level.
In the two main scenarios I listed, we have the people who credit Tenuta for the win, and Gailey for the loss. The defense wins you one, and the combo of crappy offense and crappy defense loses you the second. The problem is, it is very rare on our team that the OFFENSE bails out the other half.
If our defense does bad, we just simply will not win the game. Our offense just cannot overcome it. I cannot remember a game under Gailey where we have just outscored someone else in a shootout. If our offense does bad though, we still stand a chance if the defense plays lights out like they sometimes do.
I think this is where the thought comes in that it is usually Gailey's fault, even in the games where Tenuta's defense breaks down. It's because the offense rarely ever bails us out of a game, whereas it seems the defense does it all the time...right or wrong, I think that tends to associate more of the losses on Gailey's shoulder - because the defense usually does so much, they can forgive the one or two games a year that they don't perform as expected/hoped...but when the offense rarely ever performs as hoped, it gets blamed...
