Apparently Buck and Gathers met and Gathers decided he does not want to redshirt....but he is going to sit out this game and try to get his strength back.
As long as he doesn't play in any more games he could still get a medical redshirt, so even though he has said he doesn't want to redshirt, until he plays in another game that will still remain a possibility.
