Lineman downfield penalties are now much like offensive holding in the new era of RPO’s. Ruhle is going nuts over the call but his lineman was blocking a LB six yards downfield when the ball was thrown. Like holding, you could say it happens all the time and that when they flag it is arbitrary. But, refs need to call this far more often. When linemen climb to the linebacker you have got to call it on a pass downfield.
