\'Geographical footprint\' of ACC leaves us with few
choices if we want to stay in the Atlantic Coast area. They're not bad choices, but certainly not earthshaking choices like Miami & Va Tech. To stay within the boundries as it is now, u'd have Navy, East Carolina, Central Florida, South Florida & very soon, Florida International.
U'd have Navy as the only other div1a team in Maryland. Certainly Maryland, Virginia & Virginia Tech would want them in the ACC. They sure bring a full slate of athletic teams to any league, but they just can't get the athletes to compete in anything on a yearly basis. But they sure bring class.
U'd have East Carolina as the only other NCar div1a team. The 4 NCar schools may push this to bring to 5 the number of NCar schools in the league. They'd hope this would keep a very large lobbying force on tobacco rd. They don't like ECU right now, but that's changing as the power base erodes.
Now for the interesting part. In Florida u'd have Central Florida (Orlando), South Florida (Tampa) & very soon Florida International (Ft Lauderdale). Will Florida St & Miami unite to push one of these? Would they push CenFla or SouthFla? CenFla has been around longer & has a huge campus. They would bring the entire middle of Fla. SouthFla is emerging & brings the whole West coast Tampa area. Either one of these would be very attractive.
Notice that Ga Tech & Clemson have no home state team to push. The lobbying effort to get these 2 schools on somebodies side could be intense.
