Georgia is the easiest recruiting job in the country per ESPN

We rank at #45.

I think we should be ranked significantly lower than that.

Reason:

If we brought in a horrible coach that drove our program into the ground, it would be much harder to recover than it would be at a school with less stringent academic requirements. Our "recruitablity" ranking is inflated because, of our last 3 coaches, 2 have been excellent and the other was mediocre but had an NFL pedigree to lean on.

If I'm not mistaken, the state of GA is 3rd or 4th best recruiting ground in the country. So, while being the only factory in such a state (whereas FL, TX, and CA have more talent but more schools) would make UGA tops in this category, it seems the fact that bazillion of factories still raid the state to compete with UGA should be taken into account.

AL
AU
UGA
TN
USC
UF
FSU
LSU
OSU

Those powerhouse programs depend heavily on GA recruiting. So, UGA doesn't pick and choose as one would expect any of the other in the Top 5 or 6 on the list to do.

Finally, any list that doesn't have UT #1 is junk.

This...

The only thing that puts Texas behind Georgia and Ohio State in the eyes of recruits are the empty seats that can be conspicuous when a Texas team fails to meet fan expectations.
...is just the dumbest justification ever, for example.

I might swap Clemson for LSU. OSU relies a little more heavily on Florida but they have started pulling kids from Georgia (the state, not the school. But maybe it too)

I think per capita Georgia is the most fertile. We may have the benefit of location, but that doesn't change the fact that we can't hide our SAs.

Notre Dame should be #1 on that list, easily. They have a monopoly on Catholic players, a national recruiting profile, and are very attractive even to non-catholics. They have more revenue than many other programs combined.

They may have lost a bit of luster since the SEC has rise to prominence, but they're still top 5. When a ND fan says something about academic requirements, it makes me want to laugh in their face.

If they want to get a guy into school, he gets into school.

Miami at #17 - if Mark Richt can't get it done at #1 Georgia, how can he get it done at #17 Miami?

At Miami, players getting arrested is what energizes the team, supposedly. Forget not that according to their fans, the FIU brawl was going to be the catalyst that got them "back to being Miami".

With Richt in charge, arrests will probably go up, and he will "celebrate their differences" instead of punishing them. If it's true that Miami's engine runs on 1 part oil and 40 parts thuggery, then Richt is the gas station.

Assuming of course that they don't just quit playing football and become America's most dangerous biker gang on mopeds.

Miami is in the ACC. Easier road to the championship.

Disagree with this thinking and history proves it.

Since 1990 the ACC has produced 4 National Champs and only 2 programs have won it. The SEC has produced 11 National Champs with 5 programs.

It is easier to win the National Championship in the SEC than the ACC.

I know what you're thinking. Oh but kirbee the ACC is an easier conference than the SEC! Okay then why not take the North Texas job, because CUSA is even easier and all that Texas talent.

The only disadvantage for the ACC is the champ probably has to be undefeated to get in the playoff.

I would say the easiest recruiting job is wherever Nick Saban is coaching. The amount of players he has put in the NFL from his time at LSU and Alabama is staggering.

Ranking the FBS winning % of the last 3 coaches, we have, in order:

1. O'leary
2. Gailey
3. Johnson

So you are saying that Gailey was an excellent coach?

I think a lot of Tech fans forget that Tech is a special, special place to play, getting lost in the miasma of academic and size of fanbase/school talk. It's given so much to the world of college football, and I think that once a recruit learns about the history of the program, they realize this is a special place to attach your name to. It may not have the modern appeal of some of the other big boys, but we don't take a backseat in tradition. Every single former UGA player I've met and talked to (mostly from South Georgia) said they looked at Tech, but quickly realized that they either couldn't handle the academics, or they didn't want to go through the rigor. But they all spoke with utmost respect for the program and the school. I think we discredit ourselves too often.
