Georgia Tech Football and the deep South’s first black quarterback

To me McAshans best game was the big comeback against Rice for a 36-36 tie. He played great in the 2H to dig us out of a deep hole.

Probably so, but in addition to his GT record 5 TD passes that afternoon, he also tied the record for INTs set by Jerry Priestley vs Tennessee in 1964 with 5. We were leading big, but the INTs - one a pick6 by their MLB - were the only things keeping Rice in the game, thus setting up Jimmy Robinson & Jim Owings heroics at the end.

I was sitting next to Jerry Priestley in the UW during that game as we were doing a big recruiting weekend that game.

The biggest thing I remember about that game was Rodrigo Barnes. Mofo was unreal. LB who just shot the C-G gap over and over again to blow up lots of plays. Probably caused several of those ints.

Thanks... I has forgotten Barnes' name, but he was the one with the Pick6.
