Get off Gaileys back.....

Well, if you Gailey fans promise things will be better and we win a bunch of games next year, I guess I'll be quiet. Now I can sleep better.

You guys better promise though or it won't come true.

One correction. David Greene was a Redshirt Freshman in 2001 while Shockley was a True Freshman. Greene then beat out the Phillips kid who started as a walk-on for the job and went on to SEC Freshman of the Year honors.

The most impressive work they have done over there is in the defensive secondary. Sullivan and Veal were supposed to be good up front, Pollack surprised there. Bailey and Gilbert were All Conference caliber LB's. Their weakness was to be the DB's and they have generally done a great job.

We obviously don't have the talent we thought we had. Last year we went 7-5 with a team that returned almost everyone from the 9-2 team. This year we went 7-5 and are missing alot of those players that were supposed to be a top ten team. How can ANY of you expect another 9-2 team?????? This isn't Gailey's fault. He was hired into a tough situation; dealt with numerous injuries and lost the starting QB, TB, and best WR in GT history due to graduation; not to mention all the injuries this year. And all of you wonder why our offense is stagnent? This is not Gailey's fault. Yes he has made some bad decisions during games; but that comes with the territory. Look at Coach Richt last year?????? Gailey will learn from this year and come back better prepared and ready for next year. Instead of complaining support the team; give the man time; and lets see what he can do. It is obvious the players like him and they DO play hard out there. Get off his back and give him a chance. Negativity only hurts.

This program has come a long way since 94. It WILL NOT go back to being that bad. We will improve. It won't happen overnight. The Friedgen phenomenon happens once every 20 years. Just give the man a chance.
I agree with giving CG a chance. I agree with not firing him. I agree that he inherited a mess at times this year with all the injuries.

Please keep in mind that at some point though, Gailey will have to assert himself as the unquestioned leader of this program. He got a freebie from me this year. However, I was not pleased with what I saw on the field at times. In some games, we showed a lack of competitiveness. In just about every game, our offense was out of synch. I think Chan needs to sit down with his offensive coaches and really sort some things out. We've got a terrible QB situation and (IMO) we've got a play-calling problem. Our WR corps didn't live up to expectations, IMO. Some coaches' jobs might need to be re-assigned. Some guys might need their walking papers.

It's time for Chan to assert himself with this program.

I think you two are right. There was obviously some screw-up regarding the QB position, part of which began with poor recruiting before Gailey got here. It's the trickiest position to recruit, to coach, and to play (see Charlie Dudish for recruiting, Jeff George for coaching, and any number of guys for playing). It is critical for CG to get it right.

As for the rest of his first-year performance, it was up and down, about like it was reasonable to expect.

Cycle jacket... thanks for the corrections... my details sometimes are off but I think my point remains a strong one... after Chan's first season there more questions about the direction our team is headed than when he took over too long ago...

hmmm Richt who had never been a head coach inherited 2 true freshman QB's and alot of young players on 'D' ... redshirted one of the Qb's while the other goes on to be SEC freshman of the year...
Gailey, an experienced HC at many levels, inherits a QB with SEC experience and one year of studying the GT playbook, and a redshirt freshman QB also with a year to 'study' the playbook... The 1st team QB throws more int's than TD's and in the 13th game of the season more interceptions than completions... and the redshirt freshman has barely 60 minutes game experience at the conclusion of 13 games...
I only wish that TECH had the same problems that UGag had at the conclusion of Richt's first season... UGag was moving forward at the end of their season while I've not seen one bit of improvement in our 'O' this season...
If you are saying that the return of Hollings will mark a drastic improvement in our 'O' next year than you are making my point... I dare you to boast that AJ or D'Bo now have a year of experience and so the 'O' will be so much improved next season... that's the point... our QB's progressed not at all this season... win or lose there has to be a learning curve that moves up and there was none...
Sorry looks sometimes are not deceiving...
In what way do I compare the two other than some questionable in game decisions? Gailey has not been a head coach for maybe 2 years in the last 13; you probably do get rusty with some of those quick decisions when you don't have to make them everygame. Obviously UGA is moving in a better direction; but my original post is NOT comparing two programs or coaches. Try not to read too much into this stuff. I am simply saying give the man time; and he inherited a mess than many GT fans thought was more talented than it is.

Congrats on a great post 33Jacket...

I think most forget that in 2001 ..

We lost a game to Clemson because we could not stop a QB draw (and dont blame it on injuries at LB, if we cant give Gailey slack for injuries, then we cant include it as a factor in the 2001 Clemson game either) Quite simply, Roof didnt make the defensive adjustments. Were we outcoached or just talent deficient?

We lost a Maryland game that we should have won, it should never have been that close in the end.. We gave up 14 points in the first half due to fumbles... and lost the game on a fumble... was the team not coached well, or just talent deficient?

We lost to a Virginia team in a game that should NEVER have been that close, we were leading that game 20-7 at the half ..Virginia finished 5-7 last year. Did coaching let us down in the second half, or did the snobs eat a handful of "Get Great Pills" at the half? Bottom line, we were outscored 32-18 in the second half.

We lost a Georgia game that was over in the first possession .. gave up 450 yards of offense to our 230... we had 33% of the penalty yardage they had, and kept the ball longer than they did.. how do you lose that game? We were manhandled on the line.. Georgia was ready to play and we werent .. were we outcoached or just talent deficient? Both in that game !

Burns had 39 yards on 20 carries against FSU... superior line play??

In my opinion, the coaching has left alot to be desired for the past two years... the seasons almost mirror each other... the difference, almost 100% of the offensive yardage accounted for in 2001 was lost going into 2002.

I am not happy about finishing 7-6, wasnt happy about finishing 8-5 last year... but it is obvious to me that we cant play with many teams on the line of scrimmage... we have not been a physical team for the past two years... in fact, we havent been physical since 1998, save the first half against Georgia in 2001, but that was more superb execution than a physical whipping.

We have to do a better job all the way around.. Strength and Conditioning has to be a priority.. Can Gailey improve? You betcha... but this staff did a much better job than the staff did last year.. I dont think our cupboard was as full as we wanted to believe.
