Godsey now Baltimore TE Coach

It is like a big circle jerk. Not hiring Mac McWhorter because he was a dawg begat hiring Chan Gailey, which begat the hire of Paul Johnson whose retirement begat the hire of Geoff Collins. Not hiring a particular candidate because they matriculated at U(sic)GA is rather short sighted if they are qualified and are better than the other candidates that are being considered for the job.
20 years on, I thought I'd seen the last of Mactivism.

Certainly his successful career as a head coach after leaving Tech speaks volumes that other athletic programs could see what ours did not.

McWhorter is a sentimental favorite, but no one else picked him to HC. Gailey was a better hire.

Gailey wasn't a bad hire. In the end he didn't work out, but it's not like we consciously chose a subpar candidate. Hell, that 2006 team was probably one of the most talented in Tech's history. Sucks that he didn't get enough done with it, but nothing about his time here screams "We should have seen this coming" to me.

If you want to know what consciously choosing a subpar candidate looks like, well, I'm pretty sure there are still season tickets available for this year.

What you're saying is that the FOCers won, even though they shouldn't have, and they still managed to make an upset victory a grueling, painful experience. At least they were fun to watch when they were being aggressively defensive.

So you think Coach Mac would have been a better HC than Gailey? That doesn't even begin to make any sense - he was a HC one year prior to that and finished 4-7 and outside the Stanford game was never a HC again. I hope you are a better paramedic than a picking HC guy.

Gailey was a good coach before and after. Tech is a coach killer.

Gailey was a good coach before and after. Tech is a coach killer.
Let's go to the videotape and check that one.

CCG record at Tech: 44-32

CCG record after leaving Tech: 16-32. Last place in his division every single year.

I can tell you he was awful and much hated by fans in both stints as OC in Miami - before and after Tech.

NOT a "good coach after."

OTOH, he did a pretty good job in Dallas and did not deserve to be fired there after making the playoffs both years. That was just Jerruh's enormous hubris. Cowgirls were terrible before he got there, and terrible the next three years after he left..

Anyhow, this claim is rated . . . FALSE
