this game was not televised so probably very few people saw it but it was the most prolific of Godseys career passing. I flew up to Charlottesville and I don't think we punted the whole game.

The interesting thing about this game is WE LOST to a pathetic UVA team.

All you people thinking if we had this awesome offense we would never lose a game must not remember the pre CG years.

But we didn't lose to UVA because we had an amazing offense..that was the thing that kept us from getting blown out. Our defense was horrible then. If we had that offense with our current defense, we are a easily a top 5 team.

I hear your point LB, but nobody would be upset today other than Radokovich (hopefully) if we had won on a 4th and 1 stop and then a circus victory finish.

But law, we lost games while O'Leary was here when our D sucked. We lose games now when our O sucks. Neither is good but you can't win with one or the other either.

that's because, back then we had a suck ass defense......we have flipped...and now have a suck ass offense

C'mon, LB, there is no one on this site who thinks you can win with only a good offense. What most are saying is that it's a shame that we have such a strong defense now, and no offense to compliment it. You have to have both to win, and you know that as well as anyone here.

You're arguing against something that hasn't even been said.

Great, listening to lawbee rationalize every detractor from the coaching staff hurts worse than the actual detractors. When will you learn to shut the hell up? Your points have become common place at the table of stupidity.

Seriously, this is taking on the proportions of a pseudo-Shakespearean tragedy.

We ALL know the butler did it but why does Nero continue to fiddle?

Is it really that we have no D1 OL or is Chan just kind of an eccentric football kook that we've inherited?

Seconds out. Let the saga continue. Chan is king, Prince Patricknix is his underling, our offense is still offensive and who knows what happens next unless you've read the funny papers.

Onward toward Samford and Troy. There be beasties!
Or am I missing something?

It would be nice to have some balance concerning both sides of the ball. I remember the high-powered offensive days of the late 90's into the early 2000's (which included three straight victories over UGA I might add).

It is ironic that the circumstances have flipped here in the CG, and in particular, the RB era. I recall many games in the late 90's into 00's just hoping GT would have the ball last and wouldn't score too soon and thus leave their opponent enough time to score themselves (Clemson comes to mind).

Yes, if GT had Joe Hamilton (and even Godsey's O output) and that offensive firepower to go with today's defenses, GT would be playing on New Year's day often.

I have a sense of hope about the No-O Chan offense, and its because I think that Rad will figure out quickly that he MUST do something. I think there will be "RADical" changes at the end of this year if the status quo continues. Rad has no skin invested in Gailey's contract extension, in fact he can lament it publicly and make it a cold winter for Chan if he wants to. If the Hill tries to stop Rad from correcting obvious flaws in the program he is going to be out of here faster than that flyover Saturday night, moving on to better things.

But thats the worst case scenario, Rad can and should start having some long one on one talks with Gailey and Nix, and frankly, he needs to be a little offensive about it! :laugher:

I also think, and I hope Rad feels the same way, that Chan Gailey and Pat Nix have misled us fans and the media on the offense that we would see.

The AJC and the Macon Telegraph ran huge stories triumphing the 'new offense' to the Jacket Nation supporters. Huge, positive stories on Nix as a person and what he intends to do with the offense. Huge stories on Gailey supporting Nix while basically remaining ambivious to what his plans was.....so he said.

And what did we see? Same ole same ole.

Josh Nesbitt has been quoted as saying Tech was switching gears to the 'Spread Offense', which is one reason he is seriously considering becoming a Jacket.

Nothing actually would be wrong except everything looks so deceitful two days later. I really don't know what to believe is going on inside the Jacket's program except that it is not what we fans hope and expect to see.

How can Chan Gailey get it so right off the field with the recruiting and such and get it so wrong on the field....where it ultimately matters the most.

That is what I hope Rad will attempt to find out and fix it.

To say this post is over the top is an understatement of huge proportions.

I am as angry as anyone about the last 35 minutes of this football game because we stopped trying to do what should have put us up 14-0.

Talking about being deceived and misled just because CG stubbornly and maybe cowardly reverted to his ineffective ways should be reserved for that other caustic board you are familiar with. Those old friends of yours are probably getting a good laugh out of this now.

I think everyone realizes you want Garner playing quarterback and that your temporary love affair with Chan Gailey is over.
That's fine with me, but please don't get on here and sling very personal insults at the man.

Dan Radokovich will determine how and when he will deal with any football coaching issues on his timetable. Not mine, yours or anyone else's.
Personally, I choose to be optimistic that Gailey will see the first 25 minutes Saturday night as the direction he needs to permanently implant. Hopefully, he now understands that the "same ole same ole" just doesn't get it done.

If so, we should be in very good shape by the time the conference schedule gets here.

Amen, brother.

To hell with that other board, but if can you come up with a more adequate description between what we saw Saturday Night and what many of us have hoped and even expected to see.....based on information in articles in the paper and even by 'Insiders' over on the Hive I'm to willing to reconsider? ('Cowardly' isn't any better in my opinion)

But while the offense did produce 10 points by the middle of the second quarter it was not in any way whatsoever a departure from what we have seen in the past.

Thus the 'misleading' remarks.

And I don't believe the first 25 minutes is the way we need to go because we will be playing defenses a helluva lot better than what the Irish have. No use of the tightend, no use of the fullback, no use of the slot, no use of motion, no unbalanced lines, no audibles, no use of the middle of the field......if people think we don't have the athletes to make it all work needs to tune into the schools like Louisville.

You seemed to be pretty high on Chan Gailey this past summer, but I don't think you believed he would suddenly turn into B Pitrino as soon as he gave Pat Nix his own whistle.

Opening up the GT offense of the last several years in no way means a wide open offense, don't you agree?

I would love to see all the things you asked for in Tech's offense, as long as we have the coaches and personnel to make it work, but all that won't happen while CG is here. My opinion is you knew that during your period of praise for him.

What I don't want to see on this board is a high fevered effort to launch a Can Chan campaign. Let other boards do that if they want. Trying to build a foundation of a case on his integrity is a low blow, and very far from the truth.

However, I do believe that he has been given specific direction to open things up. Whether he does it or not is entirely up to him. I hope he does, entirely for next year's recruiting class.
It would be a real blow if he doesn't.

There is a LOT at stake if we don't open up the O

some of our verbal O recruits may jump ship if they are not impressed with the scheme. Sure it means we need them that much more, but you never know.

Why is it, that when GOL was in charge we had a awesome offense and a lousy defense, while he was a former Defensive Coordinator, and yet, with CG, a former Offensive Coordinator, we have a stud defense and a lousy offense? Seem backwards to anyone else?

pocket_watch: I am very high on what Chan Gailey has done off the field with the coaching changes and with recruiting.....no one could be happier.

But the makeover of the program has to continue on the field and what I saw was a step backwards in that department.

I suspected as much as soon as the first results of the scrimmages was in.

But to see it all unfold as it did was shocking to me. This afternoon, 680 the Fan commented on how Gailey put back on the head phones for the second half. They didn't have the heart for it but Buck and Kinkaid had to admit Gailey and Nix blew it Saturday Night. Call ins to the show was highly critical of the coaches as well as Reggie Ball......Buck didn't have the heart to go there either......but the fans did.

I didn't expect or even want to see the offense turn into a full blown spread offense that has spoken and hinted of since the spring.....including recruit Josh Nesbitt. I wanted and expected to see a fresh approach to our offense.....total use of the field and getting everyone involved.....the only darn direction the offense could go in.

Do I feel mislead? Yes, insiders to the program and in the public media hinted at a new direction under Pat Nix......but all I saw was Chan Gailey. From what I saw it is more than just Gailey manning the head phones for the second half and dropping the offense into an ultra conservative mode. I saw an offense where Chan Gailey tried to appease his critics, very important critics.....GET THE BALL TO CALVIN.....HIRE A OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR.....while still maintaining an ironfisted control of the offense.

I don't know what the hell the direction of the program is in......a watershed of positive publicity off the field vs. a whole new seaon of the same ole same ole offense and special teams on the field......a highly negative direction in my opinion.

It's quite simple, we don't score, we don't win.

After these next 3 that we should win, its murderer's row: at Virginia Tech, Maryland, at Clemson, Miami. We have to win 2 of those 4 and better beat Virginia and Maryland.

the defense while porous back then was good enough to beat UGA 3 years in a row and finish in the top 25 1997-2001. Have we done that since?
