can we improve on 7-1 in conference?

I don't know but there is a good chance we will be better next year.

the line will be better
Choice will be back
QB play will hopefully improve
the D will be better
special teams will be better

we lose calvin but .....

what happenned after UT lost Peyton Manning (probably the best pure QB over the past 15 yrs) they WON A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

We haven't improved over 5 years. What makes you think we'll improve now. Hopefully the ACC will get even worse next year considering we will continue to maintain Chan Gailey equilibrium.

it should have improved over the past 4 seasons, but never did

What has stayed the same during the man's tenure is that his teams have fallen apart in November: 10-11 if you count yesterday, and I do.

Of course only 5 of those losses have come to georgia.
In meaningless "bowl" games, the record is 2-2.

Don't you know, knox? This is the exact same post Law_bee has been making for 4 years.

How is winning our division not improving?

Everybody else in the division got worse and we stayed the same. Our division was garbage this year.

Furthermore:

We had the best opportunity we will ever get to beat the mutts and the best opportunity we will ever get to win the ACC.

Chan screwed both pooches.

I'm not defending Chan at all here. I defended him in the past, but it's hard to at this time. BUT, a Coastal Division IS improvement NO MATTER what the other teams look like. Virginia Tech is not as down as everyone thought. They lost TWO games - one to us and one to Boston College. A 10-WIN season is pretty darn good. We beat them.

We lost to UGA. It sucks badly. I'm still mad about it, but they're not as down as everyone keeps saying either. They gelled towards the end of the season and became a real force - just in time to play us. We should have won that game, but that doesn't mean we lost to a clearly inferior team.

And of course Wake Forrest - 11-2 Wake Forrest. Can you seriously tell me a team whose only losses came to Clemson and VA Tech is inferior to us? They had the better resume coming into the game. Again, we SHOULD have won, but don't take anything away from WF by belittling their year.

With that said, don't even bother dropping the "you accept mediocrity" line on me because I'm not accepting anything. I'm just as pissed as everyone else on here about our losses, but I do think we're better than we were last year. And looking at the turnover this year, we'll be better next year as well.

If improved results aren't improving to you than that is your problem.

We did what was necessary to win it, including sweeping the Coastal opponents. We can't be responsible for whether or not other teams were as prepared or not. Also, based on their record in both years, VT looks worse this year than last only because WE BEAT THEM.

I'm also gratified that you can see the future and know we will never get another opportunity at he mutts or the ACC title game. In the case of the mutts, you might want to check out 84-85 when they were coming off 3 SEC titles and fantastic recuiting momentum with the same thoughts about the series. If you insist on being this defeatist about the future I suggest a switch to your hometown Vols.

KaMichael Hall agrees with me:

Hall, ice taped to his left ribs, went blunt.
"To me, it does," he said quietly of the how two weeks of sub-par play have almost erased two-plus months of a much more solid variety. "I know a lot of guys inside feel the same way."
Same stuff, different day?
"Same thing, basically. Seems like this is the story of Georgia Tech."

But, then again, what the hell does he know?

i love you guys find ways to think we suck. We have to only group of fans that do that.

We improved this year period. The issue we ran into late was the same as the last 4 year, R. Ball's play ALWAYS declines late in the year. I don't know why but it does. Nix in his young career had trouble adjusting to his QB playing worse than a high school QB. Honestly, how much could he do. I get the feeling that Nix is tired of being forced to have Ball lead his offense. If Ball starts the bowl we will likely lose.

But to say we haven't improved is just stupid. Ball played about as bad as you could possibly play in a game against ND and uga and we still almost beat both. We only team in the country to do as well as we are this year, with such terrble QB play. Just think how much we'd improve if we got even average QB play.

I know its rough now, but our program is going in the right direction. Next year will be even better then this year. We return most everyone, and lose Ball. Losing Ball alone would have given us 2 more Ws this season. Just hang in there guys. We're getting to where we want to be.

I missed the part where he said "knoxjacket knows what I am talking about. I missed the part about it being CCG GT Football and not 40 years of "GT Football"

There is no way that we will do better than 7-1 in conference next year. In order for us to get there this year it took every team in the conference falling off a cliff. It is hard to believe that the rest of the conference will not get better next year because they have a lot of room to improve.

This I think is a possibility, but how much more attention will the running game get from opposing defenses if Calvin is gone and how that affect the rushing totals.

law_bee said:

Your kidding right. The only hope we have of this being true is if Nesbit or Threat turn out to be world beaters that were really well coached in HS.

law_bee said:

It's really difficult that our defense could be much better than it has been every year under Tenuta. The only teams with comparable defensive performance at the BCS conference level are the ones that are consistently expected to compete for national titles. I think losing Anoai and Scott could really hurt, but Tenuta will find a way (he always does) assuming he is still here.

I agree that special teams have a lot of room to improve, but seriously what in this coach's regime inspires such optimism.

Why not just say that we are losing our entire passing game? For the past three years, we have had a guy that is perhaps the best NFL WR prospect ever or certainly my lifetime and we could not figure out how to put together an even marginal passing game.

Yeah, Tennessee really struggled while they had Manning and their offense was better after he left too (NOT). Manning was only the winningest QB in NCAA history when he left. I don't see how this analogy applies to our situation.

You think KaMichael Hall was talking about the past 40 years? Can you possibly be that dumb? He was obviously talking about his time at Georgia Tech, which was under the great Chan Gailey.

I doubt he is even aware of what our record has been the past 40 years.

Yes we can be better with a quarterback that can get the ball to wide open receivers for touchdowns. We would have beaten Georgia & Wake Forest with just one completion to open receivers in each of those games. Or just a couple of touch passes on 5 yard attempts to Calvin in both games would have won us both games. Again we get beat by a freshman QB(Stafford) & one of our rejects(Skinner). Gailey & Nix have four talented QB's next year to work with for the first time in since they have been here. So yes I believe we can be better because we will have the talent to take advantage of our opportunities in coming years.

they have been here since 2002, could they not recruit any QB's since 2002?

Are you insinuating that GT could be better poised like UT was to now win a National Championship???:laugher:

Oh my...what drivel. Same poor coach without the best player we may ever see grace the Flats that year after year produces the same mediocroe results and low tier bowl...but, but, next year is a National Championship year, baby!!!

Pass the bong..

If you liked yesterday ,you will love next yr.
New QB with no CJ.Try to run with no passing game. But a DEF with possibly 7 Srs and Sr punter and FG kicker.
9-6? maybe some 3-0s..

Losing Reggie Ball will be addition by subtraction.
