Through 13 games I would give the offense:
5 A's - Jax State, Miss State, FSU, Miami, UGA
3 B's - BC, Va Tech, Duke
2 C's - Clemson, UVA (A in 1st Qtr, F the last three)
1 D - UNC
2 F's - Gardner-Webb, LSU
Season GPA - 2.6

I would give the defense:
4 A's - Jax State, BC, Miss State, Duke
4 B's - Va Tech, Gardner-Webb,
Clemson, Miami
3 C's - FSU, UNC, UGA
1 D - Virginia
1 F - LSU
Season GPA - 2.7

What is clear is that we were playing better Defense at the first of the year and got worse as we went on. LB injuries, Word-Daniels injury, and what looked like at times some uninspired play by the seniors on the defensive line, particularly the tackles. This side of the ball needs a lot of work in spring practice.

On offense, the Gardner-Webb disaster is a function of QB and OL injuries that led to an awful performance. UVA, UNC, and LSU all did a good job of playing us straight up, assignment football, and particularly taking away the dive option. When that happens, the key is to get the option to the corner quickly. This is what I think Josh has to work on the most, a quicker fake and quick feet down the line to the corner. If you are slow coming down the line pursuit can take away the keep and the pitch.

There's no doubt that the D screwed the pooch the last 2 games. Apparently someone figured out how to pick us apart.

I'm worried about our defense and our DC.

On one hand, LSU didn't hardly score in the second half (didn't need to). Also, LSU had great starting position on so many drives in the first half.

On the other hand, it just seems to me that with our D-line, we really should have shut more people down throughout the year. It just seemed that our D got more and more predictable.

All that being said though, I give our entire team an A+++. They bought into a system everyone said wouldn't work, they worked their ass off and they far exceeded most "experts" expectations. Next year is different though - gotta have 10+ wins!

Only silver lining in last night's disaster is that we enter Year 2 in Johnson regime without worrying about:
1. Swollen egos
2. Unrealistic expectations
3. Complacency that we have arrived

We should be ready to get back to work. Dwyer had it right after the game - get stronger and faster.

Will revise after we see who leaves for NFL early or transfers, but I rank the ACC in terms of who is coming back something like this entering off-season:
1. VT 2. FSU 3. GT 4. UNC 5. Clemson 6. Miami
7. Wake 8. BC 9. NCSU 10. Md 11. UVA 12. Duke

That means we will be playing the three best teams in the other division next year. We will have to be a better team to go 9-3 next year than we were this year. I believe FSU and Va Tech will be ranked pre-season top 12, GT and UNC in Top 25.

Our D gave up 161 rushing and 163 passing yards in this game. They had a goal line stand. 324 total yards to a team that came in averaging 372 yards total offense. They didn't make some key stops at times in the 2nd quarter, but they were on the field for more than 10 out of 15 minutes in that quarter.

This game was not lost by our D, it was lost by our ST's. When you give a team scoring drives of 19, 24 and 42 yards, you're going to lose the game most times. That's 21 points off only 85 yards offense with a 6 minute advantage in possession time.

You are right on about the swollen egos, but I think everyone on this board will be foaming at the mouth with expectations of ACC Champs + by the time next year gets here. I'm already there. I think we are the best team in the ACC now, and I fully expect us to prove that next year. I think we'll play FSU twice next year, once in the season and once in the ACC championship.

So am I....
1gt, you're getting boring man, of course so am I:D. The DL can only do so much. Our weak link is at LB. We played 5 DBs much of the time to limit the number we had to have on the field and our S were our leading tacklers. The DL suffered because of the LB inability to support them.

No quite the opposite NC man..You are boring scurring about between the 2 boards doing your monitoring..Get some sleep man, if you would read, I'm saying I agree with him in that we have problems i.m.ho. at Dc. it's not just the Dline nor just LB as you would try and convince everyone.

Quite true. Our LB's only made or assisted on 8 tackles the whole night. LSU's leading tackler was a LB with 12. more than our whole LB corps by himself.

Our top 5 tacklers were DB's. Then came Morgan and MJ. Not a LB in sight until after these 7 players. LB's should always be your top tacklers, unless you're playing Texas Tech. When your DB's are making all the tackles and you hold a team under their season yardage average, your DB's have played a good game, but your LB's have not.

Did you tape the game ? Replay it know it all. even Greise and Mcguire who played the game at the highest levels said we got killed up the gut. I would think they aren't stupid. Our Dline got literally blown off the ball. The people around me at the game were smart enough to see that also. Did you notice that P.J. played our 2nd string Dline a whole lot in the 2nd half, maybe he had it figured out. But of course you know it all. :fingersx:

I would give the offense:
Season GPA - 2.6

I would give the defense:
Season GPA - 2.7
Too subjective. It's simple:

9 wins, 4 losses => 9 / (9 + 4) = 0.692

4.0 * 0.692 = 2.768 GPA

Now if you want to split hairs on who owns what, go for it.

Did you also notice our DTs getting buried by double teams? That's my point, the holes have to be filled by LBs.

I despise Paul McGuire as he is a talking empty head. However having said that, they did just blow us out. With 5 blocking 4 along with a lead fullback and blocking down tight end, the line can't do it all. You can't expect anybody to beat a double team. Either the LBs have to fill with authority or you have to go to a 5 man front to compensate some.

It wouldn't have mattered since they could pass at will as well. Completed their first 9 passes of the game...

A top 25 ranked team and we're only at 2.7 GPA? I think y'all forget that a F, say 50% actual efficiency, is for the bottom of 110 teams. I think you both need to skew your scores upwardly a bit.

That is a perfect analysis, the only thing i wish Wommack would blitz a little more QBs get mighty comfortable back there and pick us apart.

Wrong. We're grading on a curve. 0.500 => 2.0
To get in the square root club, a team would need to finish 2-10 or worse. For examples, see Pac-10 powerhouses, UW & WSU.

Good posts about the D, but the plain ole glaring FACT is that TROY for gawd sake, Arkansas, and a putrid Auburn O scored 31, 31, and 21 on these people and recently too!!!!! LSU's DL did not average 50 lbs. more or have 50% greater ability than ugag's, Miami's, fsu's, Clemson's, or BC's DL. uga just hung Fifty-Two on em!? Look, they were a terrible defensive team. Our 3 point production was an abject failure on the part of the OFFENSE! Sad, but true.

True and nobody is arguing against that. But the game just took on a crappy way for us. Bad special teams play, a couple of dumb personal fouls on defense and before you knew it the game was over. The offense really didn't get a chance to do their thing.

the D played worse against UGA than LSU.

Offense definitely got an F though.
