I meant from RIVALS...my bad...

Nesbitt performed so well as a first-year starter that Johnson has given him an ambitious target for the 2009 season: 2,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards. Only six quarterbacks have reached those totals in NCAA history. "I think that would be a good goal for him to have," Johnson said. "If he stays healthy, he certainly can accomplish that."

Complacency shouldn't be a problem. Nesbitt and Co. learned their lesson last season when they followed up their upset over Georgia with a 38-3 loss to LSU in the Chick-fil-A Bowl.
"You have to go out and play every game like it's your last," Nesbitt said. "I think we were so satisfied with beating Georgia that we didn't worry about winning the bowl game. We just worried about beating Georgia and getting to a bowl game.
"This year it's a whole new mindset. There are bigger goals. Everybody's working harder. Since I've been here, this is the hardest I've seen the whole team ever work."

The guy who once tucked away any thoughts of running an option attack has found a home in Johnson's system. That much is apparent when Nesbitt describes the type of play that gives him the biggest thrill.
He could mention going on a breakaway run. Or he might talk about throwing a long completion. He instead goes with a third option.
"I would say it's faking the dive, making the pitch and having the back go for a long touchdown run," Nesbitt said.

That's not the whole article BTW...still click on the link for the whole thing....it's a "Free" article.

That's an option QB that is starting to understand what it is all about...I can't wait for football

It sounds like that embarrassment in the Peach Bowl may have actually been a good thing for the team.

Agreed. I really like the way he's talking. Man oh man am I ready for some football! Also...did you guys notices the little 2,000 yds. passing bit, 1,000 rushing?

As CPJ would say, "you couldn't drive a nail up Bud Foster's butt right now".

He changed his outlook by necessity when Georgia Tech hired coach Paul Johnson from Navy. One year later, Nesbitt has a realistic chance of maturing into college football's best option quarterback since Crouch.

Pat White Anyone?

I don't see why not. I really think Josh will be something special this year. His attitude seems right spot on. Also his favorite play in the faking the dive and pitching says a lot because he realizes it's not all about him running it's about the team and team work.

He is really getting the option mentality down, and I also like that he once envied an option quarterback and does again...

1000/2000 is very possible, but GT is going to need to blow out probably more than 1/2 of their schedule to see results like that... something that is also not impossible.

Yellow Fever, did any QB at GSU during the Johnson era come close to sniffing these stats?

Holy crap, I love the sig! I was just trying to look them up... I will edit this post as soon as I find JR and Greg Hill's Stats. The 1999 team broke just about every school record other than a few passing records that Tracy Ham had.

1st Edit:
1998 Greg Hill
Rush: 1359
Pass: 1643

Actually there were a few people who were saying this right after it happened. I think a win would of been great but a blowout loss, at least for our team, can have its benefits. In the words of someone else (don't remember who) who wrote an article on us after the game, we had been playing over our heads for the entire season. Something to bring things down to earth can be a good thing.

Those stats are pretty close but let's remember that GT may have the talent increase to help get Nesbitt to those goals. I really think he can do it.

"they'll have to blowout half their schedule" probably true...but don't you know that Paul Johnson plans on that anyways?!

Good post....totally agreed. I think as most freshman they needed to learn this lesson. Now they know. They'll be tougher because of it as sophomores and juniors and hopefully seniors (for the one's who can fly the coop)

Surely Greg Hill did. He was the best I've seen to date. T Ham was a little before my time, I really didn't start following GSU until PJ took over the reigns.

I disagree. In fact, I'd bet Nesbitt's numbers are better if we don't blow out our competition. Recall the last spread of truly gaudy QB numbers we've seen was Joe's senior year, and we only won 8 games then, because every game was a shootout.

I hope this is not the case, but yes, much like Navy VS. North Texas where both teams score over 70 points.

Something I hope we do not see from our Defense!

If I remember correctly, Nesbitt only had a little over 800 yards pasing and just under 700 yards rushing last year. To see that CPJ thinks he has a realistic shot at those numbers makes me think that our offense is going to be pretty amazing!

Keep in mind he was hurt a lot AND we rarely passed the ball. 1,000 yards rushing is the easy part. It'll be getting the passing yards up to 2,000 that will be difficult.

Unfortunately, I think the numbers are very unlikely, because I doubt he'll be able to play the whole season at 100%. Option quarterbacks get beat up and Josh does not seem to be more durable than the average athlete. Maybe he pushes himself too hard or tries to do things that put extra strain on his body, but he has a history of being injury-prone. I would count on seeing a back-up as starter a few times this year. The best way to avoid the injuries would be to pitch and pass more, but I can't see him getting to 1000 yards rushing with that formula. I'm a big Nesbitt fan, but I'm also a realist.

you are talking about ~180yds passing a game and that seems pretty high for my taste, IMO

IMO the strength of our offense is the ability to grind it out. If you are having success on the ground why would you throw the ball?

I think PJ has said he would like ~15 passes a game. Even if he was talking about completion then that is a healthy 10+ yds per catch.

If JN can do ~130yds passing and keep a similar ground attack we will win the ACC and play in BCS which would be FANTASTIC!
