Greatest Ever

Who was our punt returner in the 85 Ga. game ? to me he was the unsung hero! Remember all those real high punts and all that fog? he fair caught everyone of em and saved an awful lot of yards. He was amazing because that fog was so dense.

I remember Gary Lee returning that KO like it was yesterday. We had been surrounded by typically obnoxious UGA fans, (upper west) and when we won, I swear , Its the only time I have ever gotten obnoxious myself - I was giving them Hell !

The Bowl game that year, was New Years Eve (probably mentioned), - We were at a big party in N.C., at a hotel, and I found a place to watch the game missing most of the party ! But it was a great game - remember it well...

What year did Brent Cunningham play ?
That was an exciting era IMO...

Frankly, the last 4-5 years of Dodds tenure was when I really became a big fan - I loved those teams too - Kim King, Lenny Snow, etc - plus we were filling the "old" stadium back then which was exciting...

Did you guys make the '69 UGA game ?
I was also in the upper west for the '85 ugag game. Lots of fun (and fog).

Cunningham played '69-'71.

I didn't get to attend the '69 ugag game, but it was also a great win (6-0 shutout).

I was at the '85 UGAG night game in the fog.

I was at the '85 Iron Bowl game in Birmingham, Alabama and saw GT beat Mich. St. 17-14.

Good days. Good memories.

Isn't that what ugag did to us last year.....but it was during the game?!?!

I don't know if you actually went to the game...but it was the most pitiful thing I have ever seen. I would like to hope that it would never happen again....but I never thought something like that could happen in the first place.

No. And its a good thing! I probably would have showed more fight in the stands or outside the stadium than our team did on the field. I truly don't see how Chan's way is the way to success in 2003 but what the hell do I know. But I am going on Gailey's record as a head coach as well as not hiring a successful Offensive Coordinator to straighten out our Quarterback and offensive mess.Bringing in coaches he had with a unsuccessful stint with the Dallas Cowboys does not appear to be the blueprints we should be following to rebuild our team.

Someone please go post this link on the Criminole boards and point out that we have 4 of the top 10 teams mentioned including #1. Also, I believe that 3 of our top ten "ACC" teams occured before FSU started playing football...

Good point ramblinwise1. And thanks to law_bee for posting this link. I'm still learning football and don't know Tech's football history as well as you guys so that list sort of put some things into perspective. I recently found a copy of Bobby Dodd's bio. in great condition and plan to start on it next. Can anyone suggest any especially good football books?

Bobby Dodd's bio,"Dodd's Luck" is a great one! Think it's a must for all GT fans. Not just about football itself, but about a great man. So much in that book about what this game is all about from a human stand point which makes College Football so great to me.

Glad to see your interest. Will have to give some thought to other good books. Have a hard time putting myself in others shoes sometimes. Although I'm only 36 I've known GT football all my life.

I was at this past years UGAg game. I know EXACTLY what your talking about. The Leghumpers threw beer bottles at us, and held up "Kill the nerds" signs. Real sportsman like.
As for my favorite team...I'm not old enough to remember all the ones yall mentioned...shoot...I wasent alive. Id have to go with the '90 team though

Cheers,

stateline, i just cracked open one and will sit it in the sun so it will be ready to pour on you.

The storied traditions and history is why I'm such a Tech fan,but my favorite team was the 90 team . Loved that defense !Hit'em twice for good measure and harder!

(also don't remember much before 86)

1962... not the best team but one of the finest coaching jobs in history...
my first Tech game November 9th ...
I was 2... yes two days old... attended pregame tailgate then let Dad go to game while Mom and I went home...
Tech beat undefeated, untied Alabama 7-6... One of Bobby Dodd's best calls ever... Alabama 4th and goal late in the 4th quarter... Dodd correctly predicted what play the Crimson Tide would run... defense stopped 'em in the backfield... and if I recall the tales... Dodd then quick kicked and the boys from Tuscaloosa never regained field position..
Not the best team ever but maybe the best game ever...
been sayin' "To Hell With Georgia" ever since...

God bless the Ramblin' Reck...

Casbah62, you are not wrong about the 7-6 Alabama game. It was one of the best wins in Tech history.
