greg smith to jax st

I had a GSU alum coworker who constantly stated that Tech was scared to play them.
You might want to mention to him how GSU is now afraid to play Tech. PJ called them up as soon as he was hired and they were patently not interested.

That's where you're wrong. No one on here is right now, but there are quite a few fans from those smaller schools that are thinking just that. I had a GSU alum coworker who constantly stated that Tech was scared to play them. The App St win over Michigan just made it worse.

Well, that may be true. I don't know how good GSU was, but can you imagine the PR disaster if we had actually lost to them? It would be worse than the Michigan situation because of the locality factor. We would probably still be hearing about it today. Even if we would win the game 19 times out of 20, why would we want to take that chance? The best team doesn't always win the game.

Now, it's different strokes for different folks, of course, and I doubt Paul Johnson really cares about the media uproar if we were to lose. But the idea that there are 1A teams scared to play certain 1AA teams is not a crazy one(I doubt that we would have played App State the year after they beat Michigan had they asked)...doesn't mean that they think those teams are on their level talent-wise.

As for the fans of smaller schools themselves saying that they're on the same level as 1A teams...well, of course...what do you expect? It's homerism, and you're never going to get rid of homerism.

Granted the Assassination in Ann Arbor showed that crazy **** can happen but it still isn't comparable from a talent perspective. Bet if we ever played GSU it would go the way of all other FBS/FCS games 95% of the time and your coworker wouldn't bring it up again.
