GT #8 in BCS Computer Rankings

Not entirely surprising - you get penalized for losses and for all intents and purposes, you don't get penalized for SOS (aside from any bias in the polls)

Really? I thought the computers considered SOS, which is why Clemson is ranked 2nd.

I have to giggle when I hear people getting excited by a poll or computer ranking putting us in the top 10. Until our defense improves SIGNIFICANTLY and our special teams improve DRAMATICALLY, we ARE NOT a top 10 team.

No. Until somebody can put more points against our not-top-10 defense than our "Whirling Dervish of Death" offense can put up against theirs, we're a top 10 team.

No that means we will "win" as long as that happens, it does mean that we are "top 10".

I haven't seen any of the codes for the models, but if they're Bayesian, they'll use SoS directly. If they're built on Markov Chains then they'll indirectly use SoS.

what constitutes a top 10 team? every team has flaws. If you get it done and win ball games vs. good teams consistently, your a top ten team.

I agree with this. Until defense gets markedly better, we are just a team with a gimmick offense. Not to say, we are not a good team. We are and Johnson gets all he can out of the offense but we cannot be an elite team until defense and special teams are better.

Well what matters more, stats saying you're "top 10" or winning ballgames?

It is very possible to be a top 10 team without a shutdown defense. Winning is all that matters.

I agree as well. I have been trying to watch the last few games from a technical perspective, to see what's slipping up, but I don't think I know enough to really diagnose the problem.

Having said that, it seems to me that we have been having some issues with zone coverage and sometimes getting beat on man.

Sometimes being top 10 just means there are only 9 teams that aren't worse than you.
