They've done it AT Notre Dame before . I don't know why retarts keep bringing up the NBC thing as if that's a disqualifier.
From 2001 to now, Notre Dame has played at the site of College Gameday 17 times. 14 times on the road, 2 times at home, & 1 time for the BCS championship.
Maybe it's just a coincidence but it does look like ESPN prefers to follow ND on the road so that they can pump up the night game that will be televised on ABC.
If I were ABC/ESPN, I'd have to have a really, really compelling reason to visit the site of a game that wasn't on one of my networks. By going there, you are essentially advertising for your competition.
Last year's Gameday schedule, including game broadcasting network:
August 30: #1 Florida State vs. Oklahoma State (Cowboys Classic, Arlington, TX) - ABC
September 6: #7 Michigan State at #3 Oregon - FOX
September 13: Incarnate Word at #1 (FCS) North Dakota State - NBC North Dakota
September 20: #22 Clemson at #1 Florida State - ABC
September 27: Missouri at #14 South Carolina - ESPN
October 4: #3 Alabama at #11 Ole Miss - CBS
October 11: #2 Auburn at #3 Mississippi State - CBS
October 18: #5 Notre Dame at #2 Florida State - ABC
October 25: #3 Ole Miss at #24 LSU - ESPN
November 1: #10 TCU at #20 West Virginia - ABC or ESPNU
November 8: #13 Ohio State at #7 Michigan State - ABC
November 15: #1 Mississippi State at #4 Alabama - CBS
November 22: Yale at #14 (FCS) Harvard - NBC Sports Network
November 29: #15 Auburn at #2 Alabama - ESPN
December 6: #9 Kansas State at #5 Baylor - ESPN
That's 15 weeks, and I don't really count the December 6th KSU and Baylor game because that was like the only game that week. Not counting that game, 6 of 14 Gameday sites were at games NOT broadcast by ABC/ESPN. I see them having no problem being at our game in 2 weeks if they want.
IF Gameday came to ND vs GT, and IF we kicked the öööö out of them, we would have the most national exposure and attention that we have had probably ever.
Imagine what it would do for recruiting
This game is only going to help recruiting in the north. Beating FSU and UGA will bring in more talent.
Imagine what it would do for recruiting
We can leave the region for the right guy, but we'll never compete for anyone that football takes precedence over education.
Why is this so hard for people to get? HS senior has an offer from, say, UNC and GT. Guy sits down to watch football on Saturday and starts the day off with ESPN game day. Game day talks a bunch about GT and there are GT fans with signs in the back. Then he watches GT beat ND to make it into the Top 10.
How could this not impact said recruit?
