GT Players and the New XFL

Bah gawd

I have pipe dreams of the new XFL marketing going hard after dumbass players that have no business being in college, explaining how they can make money now while prepping for the NFL. It includes a full broadside of how absurd and patronizing the admissions process for D1 football is, embarrassing the NCAA into raising minimum SAT scores to four digits and instantly fixing a large majority of the problems with our recruting pitch.

Maybe we can convert the current college 'football factories' - say 32 of them - to XFL franchises and leave the rest of college football to real student athletes. Might help clean things up a bit.

Then 32 more teams will begin to understand football is an avenue for money and it doesn't really matter if the players can add or subtract but GT won't be one of them.

No matter who the NCAA ultimately draws from, GT will draw from a much smaller group.

I'm watching this. It's surreal. He's doing a press conference where it's just him and he's taking questions on the phone. Super long, awkward pauses. This is launching in 2020. Confirmed that he's lost it.

While I'd love this, I wonder who would watch the NFL minor league if they went this route. I might watch if the rules for a catch are "Did he catch the ööööing ball, with both of his feet inbounds? Yep, that's a ööööing catch.".

Or if it's Blood Bowl.

In the current climate of football at all levels, I can’t understand what kind of market research led to them thinking this is going to work now?

The promo package said the XFL will be faster, safer (somehow) and with simpler rules. He also said there wouldn't be any politics and hinted that players will have to stand for the anthem. He also said that there will be no players with criminal records, even a DUI. Basically, he took the whole list of complaints that people have about the NFL and claimed to offer something different. He had no answers to any specific questions, though. I suspect it's going to be football for the older, Fox News crowd. No offense to the older, Fox News crowd.
