GT/UNC Prediction

If you look at any team that won and i mean a national championship contender, they passed the ball just enough to keep defenses honest.

I say GT 24- UNC 28......UNC will win because our D is suspect and honestly until we can pass the ball with accuracy, out triple option will not work.. I wish we had a QB that can throw.

how is that false?

Did the triple option work last year vs Miami? Did it work last year vs UGA? Did it work vs MSU? Did it work vs FSU?

I must have imagined those wins, because I know we did it without passing.

MSU -- 4 completed passes, 500 yards of offense and 38 pts.
FSU -- 4 completed passes, 343 yards of offense and 31 pts.
Miami -- 4 completed passes, 518 yards of offense and 41 pts.
UGAg -- 1 completed pass, 428 yards of offense and 45 pts.

Man I sure wish we could pass more so that we could have a successful offense vs top tier competition.

Did you watch any GT football last year?

I assume you are talking D-1A NC contenders...that or you are COMPLETELY ignoring Paul Johnson's resume.

ok yes i did. I am a GA Tech fan trust me i want to win. But last year those teams did not know that GA tech could not throw. Now they know that we can not pass. You said it your self.... 4 completed passes. Come on seriously. that is not even a decent passing game. plus those teams excluding UGA sucked. Look at what happened when we played a good team like LSU. They walked over us like we were a division II team. All i am saying is look at us now. Clemson almost beat us, Miami U walked over us. It is not only our offense our defense (the secondary) is terrible.

So far, this exchange is a good summary of Tech football posts from 2009. Next up: Learn how many yards Tech gained against LSU, and how it was really special teams that cost us dearly!!!

You are clueless. So after 11 games of film, UGA had NO idea that we were going to run the ball and not throw it? Miami had NO idea after 10 games that we don't throw, but we run...but now after 12 games they all know?

And we only had 4 passes because we only threw it about 6 times...because PJ's offense can work without throwing the ball.

Our defense is the main reason we look so bad this year. Not because we can't throw the ball. If anything, our offense is slightly worse because we are trying to throw TOO much.

Yes special teams did hurt us that game. But if our offense was able to produce more then we could have at least made it closer. Hey I want us to destroy teams and i thought we would be since this is the Second year in the triple option. I am not saying the triple option is bad. I am just saying with a better passing percentage we would be even more dangerous. Plus our defense need to step it up a little more. We want to see our team get better right? That is all I am saying. I want us to win the National Championship!!!!

I understand this. Our offense is not hurting because we are trying to throw too much. We have a QB who cannot throw at all that is it. We have a freak of a receiver so could you imagine if we had a QB who could throw and run. Man that would be awesome.

I will agree that having a good pass offense will make us extremely dangerous....what I won't agree to is this:

honestly until we can pass the ball with accuracy, out triple option will not work.. I wish we had a QB that can throw.

The TO will work regardless of how we pass, but I agree that if we could consistently hit the open deep man, or open mid-range a-back on the slant, then we would be VERY VERY tough to beat.

What to come away with.

1.) TO can work regardless of passing ability. Plenty of proof from last year.

2.) TO would be a lot more dangerous if we were consistently good at passing.

3.) Our defense has been atrocious this year.

4.) We should always want to win the NC.

Yes i agree with you. I didn't mean to say that the TO will not work.. I meant we would be like the old Texas, OU and Nebraska teams that ran the TO and passed.. They were unstoppable. That is where i want us to be. Plus i want to win the ACC!!!!

One week ago most of the posters thought we were terrible and needed to salvage the season. Now, everyone thinks were going to beat an undefeated and ranked team.

Me too: GT 41 UNC 35

I think to be a top tier team, we need to be able to pass the ball when we face a team that can shut our run down. You can't be one dimensional (as a rule) and be a title contender. Yes, we beat teams last year without the pass. But Georgia and Miami's teams last year are far from top tier competition. We have a great number one receiver. We need to be able to get him the ball. I think Nesbitt can get better in this regard. But as has been said, our defense has not played well and that needs to be fixed as well.

Another one? Man these guys are spawning like wildfire. Maybe all the same guy?

Who has shut down our run this year? Name them? And if you say Miami, maybe you should review the MANY posts that are all in agreement that more than Miami shutting our run down, was us missing blocks.

If you seriously think our offense is one dimensional without passing, then you haven't watched our offense.

Pro offenses running the ball is pretty one dimensional because one guy gets the ball, and he's (not often) getting it on a pitch, or option pitch, or any of the other varieties that our backs get the ball. In the pro set there is the counter, the dive, and the sweep. That's pretty much it. In all cases the defense knows which guy is getting the ball if they run it.

Pro offense running every play = one dimensional.
Our offense running every play /= one dimensional.
