GT up in the recruiting rankings.

If I counted correctly we are still # 7 in the ACC. Remember we have to play at one time or another those guys who are above us.

We held our own against the ACC when we were consistently in the 10-12 range in recruiting (with inferior coaching, per you and your comrades), why shouldn't we be able to compete when we're finishing in the middle of the pack in recruiting?

Did we actually hold our own? We went to one ACCCG and were beaten by a team which was smeared in the OB. Call that holding our own maybe but in the bowl games we were 2-4 with Gailey coached team and yes I agree we had inferior coaching

Wow. Can somebody please translate this to something that resembles a response?

I have no doubt that CPJ knows exactly who he is looking for in recruiting. i think he did good his first go around. Something tells me that he will have a huge recruiting year in state next year. Coaching players up is all that matters when you get top 40 talent IMHO. We obviously will judge the product this fall, but I think he has a good plan and knows how to implement it.

We were in the championship game over 10-11 other teams that the "experts" claimed brought in better talent. We were playing against a team that the "experts" compared us very favorably to in recruiting. So, yes, we held our own.

Hold your own probably means .500 or better in the conference each year--which we are one of the few[or maybe only] ACC school to accomplish for the last 6 consecutive years.

I agree with this assessment. I think PJ will be good for the program if only for the discipline he brings in. That will result in a few more wins. And will probably in the future mean better players and better recruiting. I also liked his statement that he will not give a ship just to fill the roster.

Geeez! Why don't we just give the National Championship trophy to the team with the best recruiting class. Oh yeah, Notre Dame would have won last year. LOL

Sure. Translation:

I'm OldFoggy, and to me, "holding our own" versus Group A means never losing to Group A or Group B.

#47 on Rivals. Nobody really respects scout's rankings.
Count me as one that respects Scout's rankings a lot more than Rivals. When you look back at rankings, they've consistently been a lot more accurate at grading our classes than Rivals.

I remember rivals rated Calvin as a 4 star and scout rated him a 5 star. I'm not typing that scout is better than rivals, but neither service can see all the kids and based on my observations, they both tend to ignore the early commits.

This year since scout has us at the 33rd rated class and rivals has us as the 47th rated class, I will choose scout as my barometer this year.

I like just getting the average of the two sites to see where we stand, I don't think either is better then the other. Lets say we are around 40, its a good solid class for a transition year.

It's nice to have a deep class in a transition year, that addresses most of your blatant needs, and that's totally what we've got, IMO. I'm very happy with this class.

Agreed. CPJ will coach these guys up, and their raw talent doesn't need to be coached, i.e. size and speed. I am excited about this upcoming season. Only 7 months away you know.:D

That total point system is a pretty dumb way to rate a recruiting class. Va Tech and BC end up ranked high simply because they brought in a ton of players. Their average per recruit isn't even in the Top 50.

I'm all for saying Scout's system is crap, as are all these systems, but if you compare the same system year by year you should be able to get a relative indication whether this year is better or worse than previous years, assuming all the factors that make their system crappy stayed the same.

Using that as a benchmark, here's our ACC recruiting ranking according to scout:

2008: 7/12
2007: 3/12
2006: 10/12
2005: 11/12
2004: 8/11 (Calvin's year)
2003: 6/9
2002: 7/9

Put in those terms, this is the second best recruiting class we have on record. And there are several guys in this class that we know definitively were under ranked.

You could also say, "GT has now had their two best recruiting classes on record, back to back."

I'm cool with that.

Not so fast Beej

GOL had consistent top 25 classes using Scouts rankings.

I think is a great omen of things to come. PJ came in late worked hard and got 20 solid recruits. We end up at 33. With a full year I think you will see us return to consistent top 25 classes and with that consistent top 25 finishes.
This is a benchmark for me. We are able to do this. We have a great city, great facilities and a tough but great school that gets you a job with a degree. There is no reason not to have strong recruiting every year.
There is no doubt that PJ has proven the naysayers that said he could not recruit wrong.

Now two to go. Top 25 finish and beat the freaking Dawgs. God I cannot stand them.

Now with more discipline on the field and a steadier defense that is not as spectacular but more consistent and an offense that WILL put up huge yardage, it will be a great period for GT>
