I think the Clemson D being successful against us is a combo of them being really aggressive and our pass-pro being just barely bad enough to not make them pay. Maybe I'm looking through gold colored glasses, but I remember 4 or 5 plays over the last 3 Clemson losses ('13, '15, '16) that were layup TDs if our pass pro held on for a half second longer. They send safety blitzes to bottle up the run game and we counteract with AB seam routes that we murder other teams with. But their pass rush is so good that JT hasn't had time to get the throw off. And on the replay you see JT running for his life with our guy free and clear up the middle of the field. We finally hit one or two of them at the end of the '13 loss for some quick TDs.
If our pass pro can hold up slightly better against them we can hit on or two of those deep throws and force their safeties back which will free up our outside run game that we got used to seeing shred talented Clemson defenses in '08-'11.
