1st Qtr: 125 yards/14 points (500 ypg average)
2nd Qtr: 110 yards/3 points (440 ypg average)
3rd Qtr: 53 yards/0 points (212 ypg average)
4th Qtr: 114 yards/6 points (456 ypg average)

People discount the fake FG, but it was an offensive play... like going for it on 4th down.

Yes, we stalled out in the 3rd quarter, but the other three were pretty good. We just had difficulty doing anything in the 3rd, and finishing drives throughout.

You don't generate 417 yards of offense on a bad night offensively.

I'm gonna jump in on this post. I was unpleasantly surprised by the negativity about last night's game. I'm thinking part of it had to do with the early season (and meaningless) rankings. I'm guessing that because Clemson wasn't ranked, people underestimated them. That was a really good football team we beat; I'll bet by season's end we'll be much more satisfied with this W.

On D, we might not have dominated the line of scrimmage, but we were not run over like last year's supposedly better line was at times. We didn't get great pressure, but we did get some. They burned us on some well executed big plays. Let's give them some credit. They have a ton of speed, a good line, and an accurate, fast quarterback who played with poise way beyond his experience. They are gonna light some people up this year.

On O, we didn't get many big plays after AA's run. But as you point out, we got yards. Just couldn't get loose to get it in. Once we started from the 10, the worse place to get a touchdown from. Again, let's give them some credit. They have some very good talent on that line.

A few other good things: Blair was clutch. AA is fast for such a physical back. No fumbles or bad pitches.

A few negatives: we don't run to the left side well. I wish Josh would pull it down and run for a first if he doesn't have someone clearly open. I understand that sometimes a quarterback loses track of a safety and he makes the play, but it looks like sometimes Josh just heaves it long even if the guy is clearly covered.

I still feel very good about this year. But there are a number of good teams on our schedule and it's gonna be another nail biting year, at least some of the time.

I think it's the way the game played out. If those two ST plays had happened in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, we would have just won a hard-fought game. 1st quarter score: 10-0, 2nd: 17-7, 3rd: 24-21, 4th: 30-24. Still, it is what it is, but I think it's a perception issue.

I was actually pleased with the DL last night. They played pretty well.

I went thru the ESPN360 replay and other than 2 drive-killing penalties, it was about 50/50 as to who stopped our offense. CU played some good D, and we just missed a lot of opportunities (a dropped pass, a pass when the yards were open in front of Josh, a pitch when the yards were open on the keeper, and 2 wrong cuts when yards were open the other way - one by AA the other by JN).

A few other good things: Blair was clutch. AA is fast for such a physical back. No fumbles or bad pitches.

Yep. ST's were very good last night - improvement, and there were zero fumbles - improvement.

Josh needed to run more on first down. PJ corrected this in the 4th and it paid off on two good drives. He also called two shorter pases that Josh connected on. Josh is not Marino. PJ is going to have to throw more of the flares and slants for Josh. They'll be open.

I still feel very good about this year. But there are a number of good teams on our schedule and it's gonna be another nail biting year, at least some of the time.

Me too. We need to correct some things, but I have confidence that PJ will do just that.

Best thread on here in a while. :) The best thing to me is we are 2-0 heading into an overhyped Miami game.

When you have an opponent on the ropes, you have put 'em away and kick 'em to the curb more often than not. That's what I want to see out of this team.

I was generally pleased with the game. Clemson has athletes that can make plays and they made some. That said, I would like to see a few more passes across the middle (it seems that most of our patterns are streaks) and definitely the occasional pass on first down to keep 'em guessing. Thursday night against the U will be very tough.

That's easier said than done when the other team is real good. They won't quit either.
