Hatcher

I agree...the key is to not fall into the trap of getting so into one HC that you really want, that you get let down or mad when he is not hired.

Hatcher will be a great coach when he gets his chance, but if D Rad doesn't think he is the man right now then I have to respect him...what the hell do we know anyway?

What I'm getting as is why did a man who apparently was held in some esteem by you 5 minutes before you read a post on a message board somehow drop a few notches based on that post? If you respected him before why not give him the benefit of the doubt that if he feels some way about a candidate that he has some reasons to feel that way that are not irrational or based on some bias.

Because I received potentially new information, that's why.

My beef would be if DRad was looking down at CH with preconcieved notions, not if he had valid information to base it on. That is what I thought GT92 was suggesting. If not, no problem.

One bit of info that would change opinions slightly is if Rad knew that Tenuta was leaving (if not HC).

I'm biased for a Offensive mind, I think most of us are, but Edsall is a stronger choice on paper than Hatcher if Tenuta is gone.

I did meet with him and briefly discussed Hatcher. I did get the feeling that DRAD looked down at Chris or either he was doing a good job of hiding it.

Bottom line is that I want the most qualified guy and if DRAD goes another direction I will support it.

This is kind of like Republicans debating each other but in the end they agree to defeat the real enemy.

Coleman

Makes me think that Edsall is the choice. Rick is in there as a 'well at least it isn't Rick' to help get the hard to please fans on board. Muschamp is there in the A group because he is a lock if desired and we don't want to look like we had to go to the 'B team' if Edsall's agent gets too greedy.

I think a lot of former players want Edsall. That has to help.

HA! That would be very smart. Maybe we give DRad too much credit?

JOJATK, I do believe he said......"IF". To me that makes it a much more reasonable position.

I predict that if we hired Hatcher as the HC , that Tenuta would go leave....just b/c he's a HOT item right now on the open market...He will bring BIG $$$ plus I think it would also put us into a position to promote Giff Smith & keep our recruiting running as smoothly as possible...Plus we'd still have the cash to bring Collins back in..... That seems like it would be most ideal...Considering that Hatcher if hired/offered would agree to all of that...
Not advocating that I want to loose Tenuta but he may not want to stick around considering the money & the fact that he didn't get the HC position if he interviews....lots of openings out there & BIG $$$ being presented...opinion based on limited knowledge.

I really want hatcher. if he's not Drad's number one choice, at least give the man an interview. I trust that Drad will make the right decision, no matter who we hire.

Please excuse if this is already posted. From ESPN.com today:

Georgia Southern coach Chris Hatcher is one of the leading candidates to replace Chan Gailey, who was fired as Georgia Tech's coach on Monday. Sources familiar with the search on Friday said Hatcher and Connecticut coach Randy Edsall were among the first candidates contacted about the position. Hatcher, a native of Macon, Ga., led the Eagles to a 7-4 record in his first season at Georgia Southern. He had a 76-12 record at Valdosta State, leading the Blazers to the 2004 NCAA Division II national championship. Hatcher is regarded as one of the best quarterback coaches in the country, previously tutoring Daunte Culpepper at Central Florida and Tim Couch at Kentucky. Other candidates believed to be in the mix at Georgia Tech include: former Washington coach Rick Neuheisel, Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, East Carolina coach Skip Holtz, Navy coach Paul Johnson and Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong.

While Hatcher remains my top choice --my second and third choices are here as well in Edsall & Strong.

In fact, five of the seven mentioned here in the article certainly excite me. Not that interested personally in Skip or Rick.
