FTFYI don’t care if it’s Johnson or whoever, but I like Dabo’s mindset of taking less salary in the interest of having better players.

1) As a coach and as a recruiter, he isn't a very pleasant person. This isn't just from a few folks, but from people down through the years at Navy and Ga. Southern.
When he is on TV or with the media, he truly acts like he hates every second of it.
I am not saying he is a total jerk, but I know people who have been close to him, and they universally say he is somewhat aloof and cantankerous. Maybe that is common to a lot of coaches.I've never heard this indirectly from any recruits. "Unnamed sources say..." He's unpleasant because he doesn't call recruits and sing them happy birthday? Or fly across the country to snuggle up in bed with them while they're sleeping?
Coach Johnson's well liked by many former players, plenty of whom go on to coach for him.
I think your #1 is false.
Yeah like Saban and other bad coaches
I don't have a lot of data points, but this is what I have heard, too.I am not saying he is a total jerk, but I know people who have been close to him, and they universally say he is somewhat aloof and cantankerous. Maybe that is common to a lot of coaches.
Either the joke is going over your head or it is going over mine. Such is the world these days that I can never tell who's making fun of whom. Why do we keep talking about our next head coach? I know this season hasn't gone exactly as we wanted, but we are four seconds and a hurricane away from being 8-3 right now. Add another minute and we are 9-2.
PJ did that as well, coupla years ago.I don’t care if it’s Johnson or whoever, but I like Dabo’s mindset of taking less salary in the interest of having better assistants.
Aside from Georgia roots, Mike Leach is prob the closest.
I def. Don't think it is time for a change but I certainly don't think CPJ is our ceiling. Hiring Mike Leach would be the only move I would be okay with at this point. I think CPJ has a few more 2016s and maybe 1 or 2 more 2014s in the future though.
The only way GT can compete with our institutional disadvantages is for us to find an eccentric tactical genius capable of winning with worse players via brain-over-brawn tricks and schemes. But we will lose such a coach unless that eccentric tactical genius is also stubborn enough to want to prove to everyone that he can achieve a national championship at a school with our institutional disadvantages.
So yeah. Find someone who fits that mold better than Paul Johnson, and I'll listen.
Charlie Weis
Our proximity to The Varsity would kill him in just a few months.
Now that's funny! Being next to the Varsity will eliminate Weis, Mark Mangino, Terry Bowden and Jin ChaneyOur proximity to The Varsity would kill him in just a few months.
Paul Johnson is our ceiling. If we got anybody better, he would leave for a better program after a few good seasons. Thankfully, nobody else wants to run the triple option.
Given success, not every coach would leave. I doubt Leach would leave.
If he wouldn't leave Tech, then he's certainly not leaving Washington State. :P
