HD Top 30 ACC Players Countdown

I think you some of you guys are putting a little too much emphasis on this list which literally means nothing to anyone other than those that want to make something of it.

Jon Dwyer is the ACC Player of the Year. What else needs to be said?

I'm bored on a day off... don't want to cut the grass... have too many honey-do's... blah, blah... so I sit here and discuss the choices of quite possibly the dumbest chick ever to "write" about football. What could be more fun?

Yes, yes, we all know that Dwyer is the best back in the ACC, and we all know (now) that HD ain't the brightest bulb in the box. In fact, she's not the brightest bulb in my trash can.

<sigh> must. go. cut. grass.

...and we all know (now) that HD ain't the brightest bulb in the box.

Her job is to increase traffic to ESPN.com. Best way to attract attention is by playing the devil's advocate and stoking the fire a bit. Sounds like from this thread, she's doing a good job. ;)

Add this to my list of reasons why HD doesn't respect GT and doesn't know crap about football.

Hahahaha. So let me get this straight. She spends all season verbally fellating our team and our coach, picks us as the #1 team in her end-of-season power rankings after we don't even play in our conference championship game, and places three of our players in her top 10(including the #2 spot), and all that adds up to her not respecting Georgia Tech?

I don't think I've ever heard her say a bad word about GT. And no, calling our running back the second best player in the ACC(let's be honest, there's probably a lot of people who would put both TT and Spiller above Dwyer) does not count as disrespecting us, no matter what color glasses you're wearing. Unless they're gold opaque I guess.

I'd love to see this list of yours.

I believe it was a month or two ago but I think she actually picked GT to come out 3rd or 4th in the ACC in 2009. I remember reading that particular blog entry and thinking "wtf?". Sometime between end of last season and now, she "downgraded" GT's stock. I think it was because she had a lot of doubts about our defense. I forget and ACC blog is blocked at my work. :(

You're absolutely right, and if you can't do it through insightful sports journalism, you have to do it by making yourself public clown #1.

Well God forbid someone doubts our defense. Everyone knows that is the strongest part of our team and didn't lose any talent last year. In fact, if you'll look at our forum of die-hard GT fans, you won't find one word expressing doubt of our defense, or anyone who doesn't think we'll make the title game. Only a hater could fail to see such an obvious lock as us finishing 1 or 2 in the conference.

She said she didn't pick Dwyer for #1 b/c he hasn't shown that he can sustain success?

What success has spiller or taylor "sustained"(or even HAD compared to dwyer)?

Spiller's NEVER broken 1,000 yards rushing, and has gotten consistently worse over the last 3 years(the OPPOSITE of sustaining)

And Taylor hasn't shown anybody anything but a giant hitch in his throwing arm, horrible TD/INT ratio, and average completion %.

WTF.

Hah, laying on the sarcasm pretty thick there.

Just read the article she wrote about spiller being #1. Apparently he is there because of his kickoff and punt return success and it made me look back at the times when Dwyer was our return man. Then I realized that spiller wouldn't of been any good at all at the returns if he was being tackled on every play like Dwyer was. That was why Dwyer stopped returning kicks, cause of the beating he takes on every damn snap.

But the part that annoys me the most is that she defends her choice by pointing out how bad the O line was for Clemson last year, which it was. However, I also remember how she said that with our O Line sucking as much as it did against Gardner Webb that we can't be a top 25 team at that rate. Right before we played Clemson too. Guess a crappy o line only hurts the running back when the system doesn't help him eh?

Ok, I've done my rant on the matter and will hereafter drop it.

What great hype for the Thursday night game. #1 Spiller vs. #2 Dwyer. The nation will be watching. Who do you think has more confidence that their guy will be up to the challenge, us, or them? I like our guy.

So, perhaps Clemson takes away the B-back up the middle. They want Spiller to outrush Dwyer so they keep LB's at home in the middle. Please. Allen, Nesbitt, and Jones will run wild.

My early predicition for most enjoyable home game may again be a Thursday nighter - say GT -41, Clemson - 14.

Look at gth816f go.

Gotta have something to keep me occupied during the offseason, right? Plus some of these criticisms hold about as much water as GTL's threads about Obama. I've never seen so many people so mad that their team's players made up 30% of a sportswriter's top 10, including the number 2 spot.

Guys, if versatility is what she's basing her opinion on then she's right. Dwyer is a way better pure runner, which she acknowledged, but her criteria went beyond that. Given that I can see her point...

At the end of the day, 3 players in the top 10, and it only matters what's said at the end of the season not the start...

You know what? Screw HD's countdown.

As far as I'm concerned, the top 30 players in the ACC are all GT players.

I do think Dwyer is better than Spiller. But I do think Spiller belongs in the top 5. However, this is hilarious:

Why he's here: Spiller might be the best all-around player in the ACC, and he could greatly improve his stock from a late first-round pick in the NFL draft this fall.

Not to rag too much on HD, but if ESPN paid me to pick my top 30 players in the ACC, no matter who I picked as No. 1 I would not begin by saying that that person "might" be the top player in the ACC. In your opinion, he either is or he is not.

I have to say that after reading her opinion, I did give a little "hmmm, maybe she has a point" (not that I agree with it). Cut her some slack already; she gave you something to do for the last month as the countdown clock continues...

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate all the coverage over this past year and as far as how she makes her picks I do not care--it's her opinion. I have no problem with her. During last season she gave more coverage to Tech than anyone else I know of. That being said, she is a professional and if I could not enjoy criticizing little meaningless things, then what is the point of this type of thread?
