I have seen a lot of names flying around. However; we as fans.... Do we have a wish list or a must have list for the next head coach?

For me... I am looking for qualities and abilities over a brand name. Here are my top 3 wants.

Instills hard work / grindstone work ethics
Ability to not only know Xs and Os, but the ability to teach those X's and O's
Great in game management and ability to adapt to the other team.

Those are my 3 top 3 wants.

1. Master motivator (without the corniness and "culture" Bs) - examples being PJ Fleck and Dabo Swinney
2. Offensive Savant (ability to get best players in space to make plays on a consistent basis without dependence on pass or run more so than the other. Also understanding the importance of the downhill run game. This is still a league of rather athletic defensive fronts that lack true size and strength across the board. Downhill run game is the key to wearing thin and winning meaningful games at the highest of the ACC level.) - examples being Heupel and Kiffin
3. History of recruiting talented players but also coaching/developing them once they arrive (It is still a 2 part process no matter what you want to say about the top level teams. Look for a guy who knows how to differentiate between "now" guys and "process/development" players and seeks a balance of them across recruiting classes. This has a lot to do with support staff as well as the strength coaches as well. I believe Lew does a great job with skill players but lacks in developing girth and size across the lines and into the linebacking corps. This is a long winded way of stating how important recruiting strategy and the "player development" coaching position is for a successful organization at this level) - examples of coaches that do this well are James Franklin & Kyle Whittingham

These are three pillars that I really hope JBatt hinges his decision making on. I don't believe it takes past P5 success to prove you can be a difference maker at your next stop either, because obviously every great coach had a jumping off point. If we are to be a jumping off point that is fine, I would argue it has worked out quite well for UCF. A solid few organizational years can have a lasting impact on a program over time as they "re-learn" how to win.

You have to be able to skillfully manage the roster in the age of transfer portal and NIL. I would put that up there with your top 3.

- Can recruit and develop talented players.
- Can get players who make an impact from the transfer portal.
- Knows how to evaluate and bring in great assistant coaches.

- spells name phonetically
- doesn’t fake punt from opponent’s 30

I guess I see the X's and O's part of football a bit differently. In an ideal world, I'd love someone that is an expert coach on all levels- XOs, coaching, leadership, recruiting, etc. I'm not sure that exists anymore outside of a few rare people. Right now I'd settle for someone that may not be the XO or coaching expert, but can recruit and most importantly surround himself with the coordinators and coaches that are experts and can get the job done. In my mind, that's what Clemson has in Dabo. Would I love a Saban? Of course. Would I be happy with a Dabo? Absolutely.

Edit- If given the chance, I think Deion could be our Dabo. Deion may actually have better XO/coaching ability. Just give him the money to get the right coordinators.

1. Someone who can build a culture and brand
2. Someone who will help us compete at an elite level
3. Someone who wants to make us a developmental program

Pat McAfee show had Reece Davis on and they brought up Deion. Davis mentioned GT specifically in regards to P5 teams that should talk to him.

Hugh Freeze
Deion
Bill OB
J Chadwell

Those are my choices in order. They all have pros/cons and risks/rewards. They’ll all need the proper financial support to be successful.
