Heirbstreet.....

Was watching the rebroadcast of the ESPNU Bowl Mania 90 minute show last night and the whole crew on that show was giving us love. Jesse Palmer, Robert Smith, Ed Cunningham, and one other dude all picked us to beat LSU. In fact Jesse had GT winning as his 10th most confident pick (picked winners for all the bowls and then rated them by most confident of his pick to least confident where 34 was the most and 1 was the least and we were 24th or 25th).

One of the things they kept saying was that NOBODY wants to play us because of how hard it is to prepare for our offense. They made a very astute comment about how having extra time to prepare for the offense doesn't necessarily help you because you can't possibly see it at speed on your practice field so the first time you'll see it run at game speed (where you HAVE to be disciplined on defense) is in the game. But Jesse (I think it was Jesse) gave us even more love by reminding people that GT may have the best front four in "all of college football."

I think we're getting lots of love from ESPN now and it should only get better.
I watched the bowl mania thing too. They spent more time talking about what LSU hasn't done this season rather than what GT has done this season. Pretty crappy preview.

Yep. It was all about LSU's bad defense. Not about GT's good offense. I think if GT wins this game big and comes out strong at the beginning of next season then they will hopefully get more media press. Although, in the Navy-Army game they talked about GT and PJ quite a bit. So, GT is getting some press.

Herbstreit is actually pretty good. It's Corso who ruins gameday.

Everytime Herby has picked us this year, he's been right.

If you don't like Corso then you just take life too seriously. There are a ton of old, annoying, and stale personalities on ESPN. Chris Berman and Dick Vitale are two of them. Corso ont he other hand, is funny as hell to me. If you take him how he is intended to be taken which is not serious, then he is funny. Without him, gameday isn't nearly the show it has become.

I agree, I think Corso is a hoot, he has a really good sense of humor and adds entertainment value to the Gameday show.

this thread is useless without pictures!

Dickie V. is the man. He's a sweet guy with a good hear who is insane (and I don't mean Bobbie Knight-type insane) for college hoops. All you dandies dissing Dickie V. need to get back in your diapers...

Dickie V is the most annoying personality in sports by a long shot. I knew his daughter in highschool. Nothing he does is new, its the same schtik over and over and over again done in a loud and obnoxious voice. It was cool in 1991. It got old sometime in the late 90's and has been excruciating lately. Berman is the same. That guy just needs to retire.

Dickie V does have a good heart, I will give him that much, which is something that cannot be said for Berman. A good friend of mine had the opportunity to meet Chris Berman and said he was an arrogant condescending and rude SOB who thought he was a star.

when he was there as a DC they had one of the best defenses in college football. i think he is a better choice than some give credit for
Being a good DC has almost nothing to do with being a HC. Carl Torbrush was a great DC...how did that turn out? Whether Chizik has the "other" skills that make a good HC I have no idea. But telling me he can run a good defense is meaningless.

i agree with you whole-heartedly. this is the reason i think that Muschamp is a great DC but not a good candidate (yet) to be a HC

what i meant to do is shed light on why AU might remember him with a different perspective than we look at him

Thank you Coach Johnson for all the love.

Corso is football's version of Dick Vitale. Self-indulgent blowhards who fall in love with big-name programs and themselves and love to hear themselves talk. But at least Vitale is a decent man.

You should google to find Corso's interview with a Texas radio station where they asked him about posing nekkid in some mag (he didn't - it was just a joke). Corso wouldn't play along and was a completely humorless jerk to the DJs.

I'm coming around on Herbstreit. He is really coming along as a dignified professional with a lot of credibility.

Fixed it for you...

I like Corso. He's funny.

I don't like Dicky V a whole lot, he's not objective and hes stale.

I despise with a capital D Chris Berman.

I'll sum up my feelings on Corso and Vitale like this: If I saw Lee Corso walking along the street, I would stop and maybe make a comment asking him to pick whoever was playing Tech that weekend so I would be assured of a win. If I saw Dick Vitale walking along the street, I would intentionally drive onto the sidewalk to hit him.

If you didn't see Dick Vitale walking in the crosswalk and accidently drove over him, would that be...

Serendipity, baby!!!!

:laugher:

Berman just complimented Rashard "Taster's" Choice on his great game for the Cowboys.

I've met Corso and Vitale. Couldn't ask for nicer guys. Both very pleasant to be around. Vitale is a lot more toned down away from the camera but a nice guy nonetheless.
Berman? Those nicknames were old 15 years ago. He makes me turn off ESPN every time I see his big head.
