I have a co-worker who is a Miami fan and he sent me the following email:

Interesting draft of College Football’s “Haves and Have-nots.” Miami should easily be in the top 10 instead of #24 having won 5 National Championships since 1983—but at least we are way ahead of GT. I can’t believe GT hasn’t won a major college bowl game since 1956. That is sad!

Check it out. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4375901

The ESPN article has the following quote:
ESPN said:
Georgia Tech won a share of a national championship in 1990, but it hasn't won a major bowl game since the 1956 Sugar Bowl.

How do win a share of the National Championship in 1990, but not have a major bowl since 1956? Was the Citrus Bowl not a major bowl in that time?

Creative responses for my co-worker are appreciated!

We were contractually obligated to play in the Citrus Bowl, IIRC.

And we're 4-1 against Miami since they joined the ACC.

Here's my list of replies, tell me what you think
41-23
17-14
30-23
14-10

I think its pretty good

If you can find the signature that someone has on here or Dwyer steam rolling the Miami defender, that might be a good start. Umm, Patrick Nix is another good one.

"Major" bowl game likely means Orange, Sugar, Cotton & Rose up until the advent of the BCS which established the Fiesta and now the BCS Championship Game as "majors" and has excluded the Cotton Bowl, which is now not as prestigious as the Chick-fil-a Bowl.

Sent him a link to the highlights of last years game on youtube that should shut him up.

A while ago I tried to figure out how to paste that into an email, but all I could get was a still image.

Maybe ask him if they've ever won a game without half their roster part of the Miami-Dade county lockup.

Tech is 10-4 all time vs Miami. In the last three seasons, Tech's overall W-L is 25-15 (.625) whereas Miami is 19-19 (.500). Chan Gailey defeated Miami three seasons in a row.

and then shipped them an up-and-sucking Offensive Coordinator

Why were we contractually obligated to the Cirtus? I hadn't heard that before.

Prior to the BCS, the some conference champs HAD to play in a certain bowl. The ACC was tied to the Citrus, so that's where we played. Just like the SEC champ HAD to play in the Sugar bowl.

Seems like shooting yourself in the foot to have your top team obligated to a non-major bowl. It's good for years the conference in down years, but hurts your changes of a championship during good ones.

Didn't FSU win the Orange Bowl and Sugar Bowls for NCs prior to the BCS?

I actually agree with him. Miami should definitely be in the top 10. They are a top 10 program, historically. It shows how quickly people's memories diminish over at ESPN.

Also, it is pretty damn sad that we haven't won a major bowl since 1956. VERY sad. Only senior citizens were able to remember us winning a major bowl game (barring the 1990 NC). I am a HUGE GT fan. But I am also a realist, and when Boise State and Utah have recently won major bowl games, you can't really make excuses.

Now, that's not to say that it will stay this way. I have good vibes about CPJ, and I think we have a good looking future.
