Here is the problem

Having a good attitude is low on the list of needs for a team that’s simply trying win more than three games.
I didn't say it was the whole thing but playing with the mindset of we lost , and we'll just loose again is not gonna do any favor.

I mean how does the d-line last season play so much better? Even with Keion White gone we should not be this bad.
The problem on both lines is we don’t recruit them properly. We recruit them like everyone else does as far as numbers. And then when the pre-signing musical chairs occur the 2 days before the actual act of “committing“ we end up settling for the leftovers. We need to OVER recruit the OLine and DLine and then simply hope the law of averages over 3-4 cycles gets us enough 3 stars who play like 4’s. But every season by mid September we are talking about our Lines. The skilled positions can’t do a thing without an OLine as we are seeing right now.

But, as always, I’ll be told how Key recruits those positions just like everyone else and that they know more football than I’ll ever know. All true. But when the same problem happens every season when will 8t be addressed. We don’t need 20 DB’s and WR’s on the sidelines who never see the field when we could use 10 extra big boys who we desperately need.

Oh what I said is no comment on "should". I'm just not sure we have enough people in charge of things willing to fire people with past GT ties after this year.

If I've learned anything about GT football is that it takes a special coach to win here- Bobby Ross, George O'Leary, Paul Johnson, are all special coaches. Not too sure about Key.

We do need to have a true offensive philosophy to recruit O-line well. If you want to run a lot of outside zone, zone reads, RPO’s, sweeps, screens, short passes, and traps you need to recruit quickness and agility. If you want to run more power, inside zone, counters, draws and a downfield passing game you need to recruit size and strength. It seems we want to try a little bit of everything in the Collins and Key era and most of our linemen are sort of tweeners. They are not quick enough to get outside and block well and not strong enough to pass protect well and open big inside holes.

Agreed, mostly. I'd even take Chan right now. See if these names ring a bell (all under Chan):

Offense:
  • Calvin Johnson
  • Tashard Choice
  • PJ Daniels
  • Jonathan Smith
  • Reggie Ball
  • Jon Dwyer (partially Chan)
  • Demaryius Thomas (partially Chan)
Defense (this is a shortened list and I'm probably forgetting a lot of great players):
  • Eric Henderson
  • Philip Wheeler
  • Morgan Burnett
  • Gary Guyton
  • Dawan Landry
  • James Butler
  • Jamal Lewis
  • Joe Anoai
  • Vance Walker
  • Darrell Robertson
  • Kamichael Hall

This has me thinking ... pre-2016ish, I remember being genuinely upset each season about someone leaving our program. The last time I was concerned about a player leaving our program was almost a decade ago - Shaq Mason, Adam Gotsis, Darren Waller are some names that pop up (I'm skipping kickers/punters).

It's just bizarre to be in such dire straights that there is zero concern about players leaving the program any more b/c they're all so mediocre. Sad times.

Add Joshua Nesbitt and Derrick Morgan.

I would say most people were worried about what our LBs would look like without Eley and Thomas, and how we might get to the QB without White. All of which were very valid.

Others were scared Clayton Powell Lee and Miles Brooks would leave; based on performance I’d sure trade them to get those LBs back. Wish we could have hung on to Jared Ivey 2 years ago too. I think we had to give all our NiL money to Geoff Sims though

Off the current team, I think the one guy it would really burn to lose is Kennard since he’s the only guy who shows a pulse in pass rush. Mackinny and Singleton given their youth and long term potential as well. To your point, most others are probably interchangeable through the portal.
