Assistant offensive line coach Jeff Davidson has decided to stay with the Patriots after interviewing with the Jets ... New England Cable News reported last night that Andover native Bill O'Brien would be offered the job of Patriots quarterback coach. O'Brien, who went to Brown, has been on the Georgia Tech offensive staff since 1995 ... With Jon Gruden to earn an average of $3.5 million per year with Tampa Bay, is there an upgrade in store for Super Bowl coach Bill Belichick? ''You'll have to ask that question to Bob Kraft,'' said Belichick's agent, Neil Cornrich.

We'll just have to get used to these types of things. If BOB does well next year, more teams will come a callin'. If he is in fact a candidate for another NFL job at this very moment, then that's fine with me. I'm sick of worrying about this kind of thing.

BOB is a good coach. But he hasn't proven that he's a great coach. He's young and lacks OC experience (1 year with Fridge's players doesn't prove a thing in my book).

Last year, we averaged about 30 points per ACC contest. In ACC games, that was 4th best. Not bad, not great either.

We might as well get used to this, because one day, BOB will leave us. He probably has HC aspirations and he might have NFL aspirations as well. I hope he stays with us for at least the next year. If not, so be it.

Good point Ah... I hadnt thought of things that way... you could be right...

IF IT WAS TRUE, that Billy was offered the job of OC at Minn then he would most assuredly turn down the job of QB coach in my opinion.

We are just going to have to wait and see, but I think he is staying. I think he did his interview and now he is ready to see what he can do with our football team.

I see where he has been promoted to Ass. HC here, so I think he will be preparing for the next step, but I say again I will be surprised if he leaves.

I also say again that if he does leave then I think there are some other issues at play (like he and CG may not be getting along).

I will even be surprised if he interviews for the QB coach job.

But lets just wait and see.

I agree.....Plus, frankly, this whole BOB "issue" ie getting real old real fast....I mean, he has ONE year as an OC...ONE YEAR...Man, I wish my business was like this..One good year and companies are after me to become the CEO (?)..
Amazing..I like BOB and I think he'll be a fine OC one day, but he hasn't realy proven himself over time, like , say, a Fridge for instance.....

I also have to wonder whats up with BOB...I mean, clearly he is making himself available....Does he have some agenda to leave Tech ? As much as I like him, and want continuity, at this point I'm almost ready for him to leave, and for Tech to move in a different direction..I mean, he;s a good OC, but dang, he's not THAT great IMO.....

On the downside, I'm not thrilled at all with the prospect of starting a whole new offensive system, which is probably what will happen if BOB leaves

Goldrush,
You hit the nail right on the head. Pretty much summed up what I said above. This guy took over an awesome group of players that had been coached by a genius. He's had them for 1 year. He did well, but not great. And his hands were somewhat tied.

If he leaves, I aint gonna cry.

I'm just gettin' tired of seeing his name thrown around.

we dont need this continual uproar, if he want to be here say so,end this speculation and lets move on. if he wants to go then farewell, i say we hire bobby ross as OC and special teams coach for 3 or 4 years and move on.

There is a chance he will go. He is a huge, and I mean HUGE Pats fan. He grew up in New England, and went to Brown. He might go just to use the position as a stepping stone to OC in the pros. I hope he stays, but I'm trying to play devil's advocate.

O'brien is a great young coach with a bright future (if you don't believe it just ask the FRIDGE about him). It may be that his name keeps popping up for all these jobs because he has impressed everyone that has come in contact with him, and coaches he has worked for like O'leary and Fridge get asked for recommendations, and his name pops up naturally.
It also may be that he saw up close and personal how all the coaches from O'leary's staff were treated by Braine and Gailey and he may deep down not appreciate it one bit.
And finally it may be that he has seen Gailey and the new staff up close, and realizes that he is never going to be one of "Gailey's boys" and that this new staff may be in over their head and may have an extensive learning curve and that maybe he should let them sink or swim on their own.
Just my opinion without the benefit of ahso's gold colored bifocals.

It sounds like we need to just go ahead and give him the axe and turn the job over to someone who wants it. It's pretty apparent he doesn't wanna be here and how in the world would some young aspiring coach not wanna play for Chan Gailey. It's beyond me. I would hate to see what effect it would have on our offense in '02, but our players are probably smarter than the average players and would adjust well!

Bee I know you have your doubts about CG, but I am telling you he is the real deal. And think about this one fact that if CG wanted to he would be the head coach of UF right now.

I think it is very impressive to have a man like that represent GT and I believe he will take us to the NEXT level.

IMO

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Law....I am sure you are aware that CG could also have been Ugag's coach last year. Now tell me honestly....if Ugag had hired CG....would we have been "shaking in our boots" worried about Ugag?
I think not.
Just my opinion.

IMO, BoB needs to decide if his heart is at GT or with the NFL. I like to see people better their professional lives, but in this case, QB coach, is not a step up.

We survived the loss of Ralph and I am sure we can survive the loss of BoB if this does occur.

Understand that this is not the "hive" and this board is very easy to pull up all these CG posts. I have a strong feeling you will be eating your words.

I say again CG will take the program to the NEXT level. And look at it this way if I am wrong then you can pull up all my posts and make me eat my words.

And for the RECORD I would take CG over any coach currently in the ACC or SEC. The only close call would be with the fridge, but I think 3 years from now no one will be wishing the fridge had stayed except maybe the fridge himself.

just my opinion

Law,

I like your assessment of CG and I'm really excited that he's gonna be our HC. However, I'm not ready to say I want him more than the Fridge. CG still has to prove himself here. And yes, Fridge will still have to do the same at MD.

But, CG hasn't coached a game in this league, so he's still an unknown, whereas Fridge won a championship with a bunch of nobodys.

The 2 things that will be interesting to me are this:
1) How well can CG recruit? Especially in GA
2) How well can CG steer the ship given the normal turnover of assistants (he'll probably be tested in this respect sooner than we'd like)

GOL became very good with respect to the 1st question. On the 2nd question, he did not.
