Here we go again... BOB to the Patriots ??

First of all, great thread today guys. A few more of these and we'll be bantering gleefully about spring practice

Second, Axe I'm glad I could be your very worthy setup man. I have three letters for you: LOL.

Third, I think CG is the man to take us to the next level and I'm with lawbee on his future at Tech. I'm nothing but optimistic about our future with a man who has ALREADY proven that he can steer the ship amidst turmoil and turnover in the coaching ranks! He's a man of high character, respectability, GREAT connections, and he's assembled a staff that will recruit like crazy in Ga, Alabama, Texas and beyond. Not to mention that most of the staff already knows each other pretty well. That kind of chemistry has GOT to carry over to the football team and that will prove large. Interesting that just about the only one who's not familiar with many of CG's hires is BOB. He's also had itchy feet to go to ND, Minnesota and now New England. CG and Braine will find us QUALITY folks to replace BOB and anyone else who jumps ship in the future.

CG is the man and I'm a happy JacketFan while Stingtalk is around!!

Nice thread everyone. Very good read! I haven't posted here, but been reading for some time now. I've really enjoyed reading, so thought it was time to post.

The BOB deal keeps coming up because he's a hot young coach. Will he stay that way? Time will tell. Good coaches get offered jobs elsewhere all the time. With the turnover of coaches these days we see it happening more and more. There are just that many more job openings. I don't know if BOB is staying or going, but if I was putting money on it, I'd say he is staying. We don't even know if he has actively looked into this job. It's one thing to be talked into an interview, and it's another to be actively looking for a job.

As far as having CG as our HC. I couldn't be more pleased. The more time people get to know him the more they will like him. Gailey thinks very highly of BOB. That's why he gave him the assistant head coach responsibility.

I'm really looking forward to seeing some spring practices with this new staff and the 2002 JACKETS!

I say again CG will take the program to the NEXT level. And look at it this way if I am wrong then you can pull up all my posts and make me eat my words.

And for the RECORD I would take CG over any coach currently in the ACC or SEC. The only close call would be with the fridge, but I think 3 years from now no one will be wishing the fridge had stayed except maybe the fridge himself.

just my opinion

I am beginning to believe that your gold colored glasses are even thicker than ahso's.

Braine hires Gailey and then tells us he has hired the next Bobby Dodd before he has even coached a single game. Even Gailey had the wisdom to point out that he would have to prove himself. Gailey may take us to the next level or he may take us to the LAST (Bill Lewis) level. Time will tell and your opinion nor mine will change what ultimately will happen.
As far as coaching ability, Fridge took a Maryland team that arguably wasn't half as talented as TECH will be this year and won the ACC in his first year. If Fridge had the talent that TECH has this year he might have won the national title.
I just hope Gailey will be able to find his way to the stadium by fall.

And I certainly do realize that this is NOT the hive because you really can't have a reasoned discussion with differing opinions on the hive without being shouted down.
So I do very much appreciate this board and your opinions, even if they do differ from mine.
Let us all hope that Gailey is successful...but it is FAR from a foregone conclusion.

Beeware must be a fireman by trade. He sure likes throwing cold water on DB, CG and Tech's new, Southern fried coaching staff. Personally, I'm glad O'Leary, Fridge and the rest of their NY/Northeast dominated staff is gone with the wind. Maybe now we can finally renew old (but not forgotten) rivalries with Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee and South Carolina instead of scheduling Syracuse, Boston College, Connecticut and other uninteresting, out of region schools. Yee-haw!

I dont know why you think this guy is Elmer Fudd. But I am telling you now, relax we got it covered. Just sit back and enjoy the ride. It is going to be a special year next year. I FEEL IT!

This has been a great thread... with alot of different and interesting perspectives and opinions... it doesnt get much better than this...

my two cents... I wonder if BOB is really committed... but, I cant get upset because he is in demand... it could be that, or it could be that there are those in the coaches circuit that know he is not too happy with the new regime... who knows.. but I agree, that whatever happens, we will be fine... for whatever reason, I do believe CG will do us a good job, and am in the same camp as Law.. I believe he will take us to the next level.. I dont believe he would have taken the job if he thought the best he could do was finish 2nd in the ACC with 9-2 records... I think we will see the program go up a notch ... I also agree that we let the wrong fat man go in 2000, but am also curious how things are going to be in MD over the next two years... the ACC in general seems to be retooling with some very good coaches... I think we are going to see the conference as a whole get much stronger over the next 3-5 years... (I think the biggest problem we have in the conference is our bowl alliances) I am not sure how RF will fare ... I dont see MD becoming the next power in the conference... not so sure I agree with T. Bowden being at #2 ... I think he is going to be under intense pressure this year... and I see Clemson finishing no better than 4th in the ACC this year... that coupled with a loss to SC will not bode well for Bowden...

Agree with you Jacketguy regarding the ACC. Love Fridge. Always have. He's a winner. Last season was magical for them to win the ACC. We blew that game with them in our house. No doubt in my mind about that. What people don't talk about is how mature that MD team was. Those guys had been around the block a few years. Fridge finished a job that their previous coach started. The platter wasn't empty when Fridge took over. Winning is one thing. Sustaining a program is another. Now Clemson. I'm not a Bowden fan. He's great media guy and seems to be a fine person. Like his dad he can really recruit. Honestly don't see him in long haul making it at Clemson. They demand winning and winning big. He's not going to get it done. He recruits great players, but he doesn't fit the teams needs. Well, if they beat the silver britches out of UGA next year I'll like him a lot better as a coach.

Really am liking the make up of ACC football more and more. It's really on the rise from top to bottom with the exception of Duke. Unlike others, I haven't given up on them yet. If Spurrier could do it there so can someone else. Spurrier is no God.
