Here's a sobering thought ... (bowl prognistication)

The ACC has 8 bowl tie ins, and a 9th possibility with the Eagle Bank bowl, which can choose either ACC#9 or MAC#4.

The ACC may have 10 bowl eligible teams, and the top four of the MAC look reasonably strong.

If we lose our next 2 games, could we end the year bowl eligible but without a bowl to go to?

Usually that means another conference will not have enough eligible and an ACC team will take that spot. And if that doesn't happen, no, since we'll be 7-5. There will clearly have to be a 6-6 team in the ACC to have that 10th spot.

Of course it's theoretically possible but no it won't happen.

8 ACC teams already bowl eligible: FSU, Wake, MD, BC, UNC, MIA, VT, GT

4 others:
UVA 5-5, Clemson, @VT
Clemson 4-5, Duke, @UVA, SC
Duke 4-5, @Clemson, @VT, UNC
NC State 3-6, Wake, @UNC, MIA

I don't see how any of those schools get to 7-5 to get picked ahead of us. Maybe UVA and Clemson can get to 6-6.

I guess the wildcard is our 2 wins over FCS schools. Does anyone rule how the 7-5 before 6-6 applies to situations were its really 6-5 vs 6-6 like us?

PAC-10 has 7 slots and looks like they will only produce 5 bowl teams. 6 if Arizona State runs the table or Stanford pulls off miracle win.

The rule is to favor a team with a winning record over a .500 team.

Great, does the PAC-10 play in any east coast bowls?

;)

No but the SEC isn't going to fill 2 slots, so the Independence and Birmingham Bowls are available also. I think the Eagle Bowl is going to go after us hard and even though I live in Baltimore I'd rather we go to Birmingham.

Lets beat Miami and Ugay and hope for the Gator with Music City as a second option.

CU played 2 1AA teams, or so I was told by a CU fan. Therefore, they have to win all remaining games to become bowl eligible. Highly doubtful.

Duke is one of their games, so I'd say Duke is doubtful, too.

Yes, Clemson, GT, and F$U have all played 2 d1-AA teams.

Unless UMD wins out, I am betting the EagleBank Bowl is their probable destination.

I seem to recall that a bowl can skip one team down the standings to get a better draw. Both Clemson and UVA would be candidates at 6-6 compared to Tech at 7-5. Unfortunately, our fan base does not have a reputation for filling up hotel rooms and selling tickets. Maybe in a few years that would change. Let's hope we finish at 9-3 and not have to deal with that.

We beat both Miami and UGA we will go to the peach!:D

The only way we go to the Peach, is if we beat UGA in a close game and they want a rematch. A la 1990's Gators and Semenholes.

I would rather go the Charlotte, because the Gator will take ND if they can, and I don't want to kick the Fat man's ass again. It's not really an accomplishment anymore.

It is based on ACC record, not total record.

The way the standings are now, it's pretty tough to guess who will end up within 1 game of whom.

Thanks for the clarification. It seems any bowl speculation is premature, considering the logjam of ACC records and remaining games.

I kind of know what you mean, but for those of us who grew up against ND in the 70's, it's still pretty satisfying. Playing ND after they play Navy would not necessarily be a good thing however.

I want to beat WV at Birmingham if we don't win out. If we win out, we will go to the Gator or Peach Bowl unless VPI, UNC and FSU all win out too.

Yup, they played Citadel and South Carolina State. Their remaining games are Duke, UVA and USC and Clemson is very unlikely to win out. Damn, from #9 in the nation to not even bowl-eligible.

Sarcasm? There's no way in hell there would be a rematch in the Peach. The ASC doesn't really want either Georgia team in the game much less both. They don't want everyone driving home after the game - they want hotels filled and other entertainment dollars spent.

the sobering thoughts are much more sober in places like Michigan (where they are losing a massive bowl streak) and Clemson (where they might go without a bowl after preseason top 10 ranking) and even Georgia, who we could take out of a major bowl if we beat them or if they lost at AU or both...
