I've been calling her an idiot for over a year, and people kept telling me to lay off because she says nice things about CPJ. I know a lot of Georgia fans that compliment CPJ, and that doesn't excuse the rest of their idiocy.
 
I finally deleted the ACC Blog link from my favorites. I'm forcing myself to not go there. I'll go to the local paper's site if I want to read about another ACC team.
 
I believe you shouldn’t be writing about football unless you’ve strapped on the pads and knocked a snot bubble or three out of your opponents. I doubt Heather has done either and would find the later rather gross.

:laugher: I won't defend HD here but I will say that if we only let former players write then we'd be a lot worse off than we are now.

Seems like all espn reporters are pushing sec superiority since they signed a contract with them.
 
We can complain all we want about the bias in coverage, but here are the numbers from the weekend:

SEC - 10-1 so far (likely 11-1 after today), only loss was on the road v top ten, two wins over the ACC, including a road win and a neutral site win over ACC's highest ranked team, and they handled with ease the cupcake games they had (with the exception of LSU, who won but not as comfortably as they hoped)

ACC - 4-6 so far (will be 5-7 after tomorrow), two losses to FCS teams at friggin' home, 2 losses to SEC teams, highest rated team loses, and another gets blown off the field against a Pac Ten team

Based on one weekend, one would have to say that the SEC is indeed superior as a conference. Let the season play out and we'll see, but the ACC looked like crap as a conference this weekend, and the SEC didn't.

Don't hate on the truth folks.
 
This week does not bother me so much, we all knew that UVA would be garbage this year, and that Duke was overmatched versus defending FCS champions Richmond. Baylor is probably the most improved team in the Big 12, and we knew that Wake was going to have a down year anyways. Also, VT always has a clunker to start the season. True, NCST blew chunks against a pathetic USC team, but at least it was not as ugly as last year's game. And we all knew that Maryland was going to be overmatched against cal.

I see Miami beating OU this season esp if Bradford is not ready to return yet or if that is his first game after returning. UCF and USF should both be wins for the Canes. BC may pull off that game against ND, I am not sure yet how BC will fare this season. Clemson will be able to knock of TCU and USC, but we shall see. I am not sure how FSU will fare against BYU, but it would take almost a miracle at this point to beat Florida. I think that they should have USF though. Maryland's next 3 are all ooc, and the only one I think that they may lose to is Rutgers, but I still think that they will win that one. I think that NCST will lose against Pitt, so they are not helping the conference. Only game that WF has that will be a challenge will be Navy, but it is late enough in the season that WF should be able to improve by then and pull out a win. UNC should be able to pull out wins against UConn and ECU. Duke should lose to Kansas, but pull out wins against Army and NC Central. Virginia may get a win against Indiana. I think that VT should be able to win the remainder of their OOC games even Nebraska. I also think that we should roll in all of our OOC games.

Overall, I think that the conference will be a little worse than last year, but will be a little more top heavy which is what pollsters hold as important anyways.
 
Aiken, the same thing happened last year and the ACC finished .500 versus the SEC. There is still a lot of football to play.

Overall it is probably a better conference, but the knob slobbing post $2 billion contract from The Worldwide Leader is unbelievably blatant, IMO.

It is, but we're definitely not helping our cause when we lose to TWO FCS teams in the opening weekend, and lose our two nationally televised games(both to SEC teams.)
 
I say at this point, screw the ACC. We've been good at some points, but right now, we really can't defend losing to two FCS schools. If VPI had won last night, it would have given us some legitimacy, but nope.

At this point, since VPI is going to go out of the limelight, let's take the opportunity and make us stand out. It starts this Thursday and the week after.

I know there is a lot, which is why I said we need to let the season play out.

Last year, not only was the ACC .500 vs the SEC, but in terms of non-conf performance, the ACC was second only to the Big XII in winning percentage for BCS conferences.

2008 non-conf, not including bowls:
Big XII - 38-10 (.792)
ACC - 37-11 (.771)
Big Ten - 32-12 (.727)
Big East - 28-12 (.700)
SEC - 33-15 (.688)
Pac Ten - 14-17 (.452)

My point in the original post was that people spend time bashing those who praise the SEC when in fact based on yesterday's performance the SEC deserves praise. Not making a blanket statement for the season just yet, but for one day, it is really hard for anyone to argue the numbers.

TWO FCS teams? Really?
 
We also had the best winning percentage in non-conference games against BCS opponents.
 
...and the ACC was 13-0 versus FCS last year. Guess Puke and Hoo-ville U screwed that one up pretty good for this year, huh?
 
It seems to me that the coverage of the games really color our opinions of them, especially the ones on SECSPN. The USC-NCSU game was close, and both teams played like garbage, yet the announcers consistently talked up the SEC team, and talked down the ACC team. The VT-UA game was close, with both teams playing reasonably well, and, though better than the USC-NCSU coverage, the announcers allowed their bias to show through.

I agree about USC and NCSU both being garbage, and the SEC love was ridiculous there, but Alabama outgained VT 498 yards to 155. The game may have been close, but the talent level certainly wasn't. The better team clearly won the game.

The bottom line is that we are getting shellacked in the media, but instead of standing up and giving good performances when the talk stopped and the play started, the ACC pretty much catered to the media's expectations.
