Smart has never been a HC so no benefit of the doubt.
Richt can't get out of his own stupid way in big games so he gets no benefit of the doubt.

I mean seriously - if he couldn't do it at UGa with zero limitations, he isn't going to do it at Miami either.

Can we stop being scared of this doofus? The only reason he kicked our asses is because we choked not because he outcoached CPJ.
 
We know Miami and Georgia are both programs that can win titles. We know Richt can't. We don't know if Smart can. So Georgia.
 
poll would be a lot more interesting with a 3rd hypothetical option: Richt still at uga. Does anyone disagree that if Richt had stayed at uga, his chances of winning a national championship would have been better than either richt at miami or smart at uga?

Nope, easier to win the ACC as long as Saban in the SEC.
 
Richt can absolutely win a title, you guys are crazy. Especially in the ACC. Just because he hasn't done it yet doesn't mean it can't be done; it's not exactly an easy thing to do even if you have a great team. Lots of things need to go the right way.

This, although I'd give UGA a significant advantage in inherent ability to win titles. Richt had a long time to do it at UGA and couldn't. I don't see it happening at Miami. Smart wins simply due to uncertainty.

Yes, I didn't mean to imply that Georgia and Miami were on a level playing field in that regard. And your second sentence is my reason why I don't see Richt getting a national title anywhere else. He had that team up to national levels by his second year in 2002 and as everyone else in his conference rose and fell around him and the SEC East eventually was as ripe for the taking as it could get, Richt could never put it all together.

I just had a thought. Everybody, including myself, has been pissing themselves in fear over this guy taking over in our division, but shouldn't we consider Spurrier? He dominated Georgia for years and put the fear of god in Athens. When he came back at South Carolina, a program I'd guess is more well-equipped than Miami, that dominance was gone. He went 5-6 against Georgia IIRC but that's certainly no 13-2.
 
I picked Richt, but his team couldn't win a crappy SEC East conference the last few years. Don't know if he'll win the ACC. But I don't think UGA will win a national title ever, so Richt it is.
 
Smart is a boom or bust hire IMO, but the upside is huge. He comes from a program that is used to winning titles. If he can infuse some of that Alabama mentality into Georgia's program, they could get really really good. UGA has near unlimited resources and already is used to top 10 recruiting classes. Add possibly the best DC and best recruiter in the country and they could start landing Alabama-like classes. If they get the right OC, watch out.

Anyone who voted Richt at Miami is full retard.

The resources at option 1 are far greater than anything option 2 can put together. Miami is closer to Wake than it is Alabama or any of the other major factories. Richt might take Miami 9-3 or 8-4 every year, but they will never make the playoffs. UGA is a top 10 job in the country (maybe even top 5) and a new coach that is an elite recruiter could have a field day at UGA. The ceiling at UGA is much higher than the ceiling at Miami.

Wait. I agree with everything you said, but who's been pissing themselves in fear over Richt? What he's done against us vs. UGA is pretty much irrelevant at this point, since this is a vastly different situation. I'm not any more worried about Richt than I would be about whoever else they might hire.
