I can tell you to me the internet = free stuff. The wall street journal is the only thing on the net I pay for and that is under protest.

In fact I don't like paying for the internet, cable, and electricity.

I want higher quality at LOWER PRICES! :laugher:


If you do happen to pay for hive insiders I would expect you to come over here and help a brother out.

I equate that to when at the games (have headphone and listen to wes) and someone asks me a score I tell you the score.

Why would anyone want to pay for sports info? There are numerous people that will report on it for free b/c they support the team.

Posting publicly available information on a private forum does not transform the information into private information.

Original content deserves to be protected and the author's rights respected.

But having a buddy inside the AA who calls you to tell you that Roddy busted his wrist then charging everybody to tell them then telling them not to tell anyone else is beyond idiotic.

It's not idiotic. Info like that isn't what people pay for. It eventually becomes public. People pay to read interviews, get practice pictures, and any other info that both scout and rivals provide because its far better coverage than the ajc. And the forums always provide better discussion because you don't have many hit and run posters on the pay boards like you do on the free ones.

What you are describing is original content and it deserves to be protected, respected and not reproduced.

But if you read the Hive thread, you will see many who think that anyone who acquired the information about Roddy on the Insiders Board and then disseminated it is guilty of some sort of ethical, moral or legal violation. I find that position indefensible.

I was on the Hive Insider Board for years, and there was some great info there. I met some great guys there, too. The writers work hard to get good info, and they also work hard to verify it before they release it. I can understand that they don't want it immediately spread all over the web. However, once the info is out, it's out.

Unless it's a copyright article, I see no reason to keep it secret. I stopped being part of secret clubs about the 5th grade.
 
That was an amusing thread. I liked the post asking exactly what the appropriate waiting period was before an Insider could mention something from Insider.

In previous discussions, I remember people being very righteous about discussing unverified rumors on the Hive. Yet they defended the same discussion on the Insider board.

I'd think once you post something on the internet anywhere you must assume it is no longer a secret. If it is inappropriate to discuss something because it is private, then it is no less in appropriate to discuss it with people who paid for the gossip..

If it is copyrighted, then you shouldn't copy it. But otherwise ....

Are Insiders also prohibited from verbal discussions on info from the board?

Once they post it on the internet, it's public domain. If you want to quote something from Time magizine, you can. Just give the reference. It doesn't matter if the person you are talking to hasn't ever bought a copy of Time in their life.

But, if I was on the insider board, I would boot anyone who distributes that information. Otherwise, you're tanking the business model.
 
What, we can't discuss injuries that other fellow humans have gotten? Screw that.
 
The post on roddy's wrist was broken on Stingtalk first, not the Hive. Don't know why they got their panties in a bunch.

FWIW, the earliest post I saw here was at 12:45 this morning. It was on the Insider board of the Hive about 10:45 last night.

Actually, from what I know, it was broken around the same time at the premium boards at the Hive and by someone at Bbuzzoff, who got the information from people who know Roddy. I posted about it here after seeing it on Bbuzzoff.

The guy who posted it on buzzoff reads the insider board but rarely posts. He reported it over 2 hours after it was already on the Hive.
 
My mistake. I read it here first and didn't see it on the Insiders board until later. I must have missed it.
 
Paying for information about sports on the internet is only slightly less stupid than paying for porn on the internet.

If you want to pay to keep the douchebags out of the conversations and to get some personalized content then it makes more sense. Nobody should have thought their Insider (be it Hive or ESPN) came with the inalienable right to have super secret knowledge.

They really bought into the marketing concept of "Insiders". :rolleyes:

I know it may not be the popular opinion (and one I'm not too comfortable with), but it seems the quasi-property value of "hot" news might apply here. It is information that some people do value enough to pay for and people posting the information for free on other sites circumvents that.

I guess it would come down to who could afford the better lawyer, rivals or stingtalk.

So poeple on the Insiders Board for every school are stupid?

What I want is the interviews mostly, plus as you said, not as many idiots in the conversation. I do like the reports from gp1 and others who talk with recruits and coaches and monitor practices, etc. My philosophy is that since they don't post it on the regular board that they expect some level of confidence. I never post anything on another board until I've seen others discussing it. At that point I figure it's out. But I do think that someone who reads info on the Insider board, whether it's the Hive or any school's board, and then rushes to spread it should have his/her privileges revoked. It's kind of what you agree to.

I also understand that if those guys get the info, others can too, and that everything will be public knowledge pretty quickly. But just like ripping off copyright info is bad form, so is that.
