Hokies -6

So they lost to Old Dominion's backup QB, gave up 500+ yards and should have lost to a UNC team that is just waiting until the season's over so they can fire their coach, and have lost 3 of the last 4 to us, but they will beat us "quite easily"? Yeah, okay.
Because they beat Duke and we couldn’t?

I mean, I don’t think our win loss record, or theirs for that matter, tells us much about who the winner of this game will be. But if we are comparing wins and losses, then surely the one common opponent we’ve had would be the most relevant?

We lost to Duke and beat VT last year. Relevant?

Wish the ACC would put VT-GT back to Saturdays. I hate this game on Thursday night.

It is relevant, but so are the games I mentioned. Both teams have been so wildly different from week to week that it's hard to know what to expect.

I don't know about 'quite easily' - Our D will likely keep us in it for awhile - but to beat VPI, it's important to throw it well. See ODU. We don't throw well (we barely throw at all) so I don't see us beating 'em.

but yeah, this is probably the worst VPI team in a while. I guarantee you Fuentes won't get an extension.

I think our O performs better against poor pass defense teams than poor rush defense teams. Poor pass defense teams typically have three problems slow DL, poor solo tackling, and a tendency to not play your assignment because you get caught looking elsewhere. Those are things our O is good at exploiting.

Poor rush defense teams generally are small up front, bad at shedding blocks, or have poor corners which means they can’t bring a safety up to help in run support. Our O can take advantage of those, but we don’t base our O on holding blocks or drive blocking.

Well, that’s my point. Ever since CPJ has become Tech’s head coach, the GT-VPI game seems it’s own thing nearly every season, and the result can rarely be predicted based on any other game.

I would have believed we stood a good chance of winning this game even if we had 0 wins coming in. And I would have believed VPI had a good chance of winning this game if we were undefeated.
