read the article and judge for yourself

Bilbo, whose position switch opened the door for freshman Reggie Ball to become Tech's starter, did not play in the Jackets' season-opening loss at BYU on Aug. 28. He played just a few snaps in the win over Auburn, at fullback and receiver, and did not get on the field in last week's game at Florida State.

Bilbo regrets his decision not to transfer.

"Yeah, you could say that," he said. "Either way, I would have had to sit out a year. I thought by switching positions, I was going to be able to help the team out in other ways, but, thus far, it hasn't really happened."
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Notice where the quotes are. It appears to me that Hollis asked a leading question and coaxed the young man into the answer.

THIS IS A NEW LOW FOR HOLLIS. This is AMBULANCE chasing journalism.

Hollis I hope you know how pathetic this makes you look.

Yet another negative, anti-TECH article by the dawg-based AUC.

If you have ever heard Hollis speak then you would understand where this comes from.. he may not be the guy riding on the back of the watermelon truck, but he is definately somewhere in the cab.... just an idiot... ignore him...

And Damarius... either get your heart in it and go play or pack up and leave... everyone has crossroads in their lives.. standing at a crossroad is not the place to be..

I hope to see you become a star at Tech.. but you gotta change your attitude...

Isn't it strange that after several articles from newspapers outside Atlanta about how the players are getting behind Gailey and showing unity, we have Hollis writting this. Makes you wanna go "Hmmm".

it seems to me, they are just really lazy. in all of their articles they offer tiny amounts of new quotes or stats. 80% of the article is rehashing of old news. so many articles have discussed flunkgate and the uga and fsuwest losses even when it didnt seam to fit the theme.

its like a soap opera, imho.

Hollis was on the plane one seat in front of me after the BYU game (this was going to Las Vegas Friday am). I overheard much of his conversation with the person sitting beside him, who was reading the SLC coverage of the Tech game.

At first I did not realize it was John Hollis. But I was surprised at his knowledge of the GT team, knowing who the players were when talking about the game. It is telling that I thought this individual was a BYU fan who was knowledgeable about GT's players. I thought he was a BYU fan, because he seemed delighted at any big plays by BYU, referred to GT as 'them', and otherwise seemed anything but a fan of GT. It was only later in the conversation that I realized it was JH.

I wonder if Mark Schlabach refers to the UGA team as "them", and is almost giddy at any misfortune of the Bulldogs?

It's pathetic and I don't think Hollis should be allowed in the Tech lockerroom.

The bias is bad enough but this article is YELLOW JOURNALISM!

It is clear that Hollis had an agenda while asking the questions.

Where are the Shockley articles? I bet if they followed him around he would make many interesting statements.

I am surprised that so many are surprised.

All Tech fans and those that advertise in the AJC should stop their subscriptions and withhold all advertisements.

You can only hurt them through their wallets.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Did that a long time ago for AJC and Marietta Daily Journal. Neither one have anything good to say... both seem to thrive on negative journalism.

I shared a similar experience the night prior to the BYU game in the team hotel bar. Hollis was spewing his anti TECH cynicism with a bunch of Tech staffers (not coaches). His sneering criticism of the team and coaches made me want to get out of my chair and have a visit with ole John. To this day, I wish I had.

I just sent him an email. Oh, by the way, he also said that he got a kick out of emails from p.o.'d fans. I hope I made his day.

Buzz Bomb, I cancelled my subscription to the AJC when the second newspaper opened in Atlanta. After it folded, I never subscribed to the AJC again.

They have called me three or four times a year since then. It gives me the opportunity to tell them why I will not subscribe.

I tell them I will not subscribe because of their completely liberal bent to the news and because Tech is the Atlanta team and is treated second class. I always tell the caller to register my complaint and pass it back up the line.

If enough Tech fans and other readers will do the same, it will have an effect on their news coverage.

If I may play devil's advocate, nobody mentions today's piece on our punter and his inspiring battle over cancer that appears in the AJC. Who wrote that piece?

Jackets punter beats nightmare to reach his dream

Is the coverage better in other papers like the Macon Telegraph and the Augusta Chronicle? Yes, it most certainly is. I learned to accept that many years ago. But countless fans from that other school up the road seem to view the journalism in the AJC with the same regard as us! Reporting on Adams/Dooley. Breaking the Tony Cole story and digging to find stuff on Harrick. Selling rings on ebay. It all came out (eventually) and in most cases it was that idiot Schlabach that tagged his name to the articles.

The AJC is trash. But it's trash for everyone, not just us!

It's not a good coverage vs. bad coverage question, it's the fact that SC, Macon, Savannah, and Augusta seem to have more in-depth articles with more quotes and information.

2 Big:

A decent article probably comes out every once in a while from AJC. However, my gripe with AJC comes from personal experience. We tried desparately (even personally talked to the editor) to get some good publicity for our local high school athletic and band program. Even offered to write the article for them and AJC could edit, as appropriate. They declined to allow us to publish anything containing 'GOOD NEWS' about a local school. Just always seems like it is constantly 'Negative Waves' coming from them.

Got news for them... I'm not interested in a constant stream of bad news all the time. Perhaps, bad news sells... but not to me. I'm with Ahsoisee on this on. Money is the only language they understand. In lieu of purchasing the AJC, we donated funds to my younger daughter's local high school newspaper staff. Have to admit, it's pretty neat at my age to still receive a complimentary copy of the high school newsletter in the mail. I still read all the local 'good news' from cover to cover every month.

Our school PTSA doesn't even bother to advertise yard sales, etc. in the AJC any more. Who needs them anyway?

As for UGA problems... can't say. Aren't some of these journalists coming out of their School of Journalism? Seems like they would cut their own school a little slack instead of tearing it down.

I wonder what the odds are that CCG will have a fatherly word with Damarius or issue a statement to the team? Not to censure but to advise.

I'm sorry but Hollis just comes across as a complete creep. I wouldn't want my kids anywhere near him.

If you are referring to the Atlanta Times--you are really dating yourself.

not have a school of journalism, so just

According to the jerk himself, he did not go to ugag. Unless I heard him wrong, he is actually a big gator fan. Whatever he is, he's a miserable human being.
