How did Miami become so successful?

They eventually did start getting a lot of good locals guys, but were not those great QBs all from up north or out west?

I think Rusty Medaris was from Missouri, although not a QB.

It was a style of offense and play that I think drew a lot of kids in.

And if I recall, they had a very decent ( in comparison to a lot of others) grad rate.

Next question is how South Florida got to be the second best team in the state within 10 years of starting up their program?

Re Miami, I think the integration thing played a part but that was true of all the south. I think Florida's population started booming in the 70's/80's too. States like IL, OH, and PA used to all have bigger populations but now Florida is already up to 4th and I think is projected to overtake NY in a decade or two.

I saw a statistic several years ago that Dade and Broward counties produced as many Div 1 prospects as the rest of Florida combined, and that Florida produced more Div 1 prospects than any other state. If you have recruiting, you don't need that other stuff.

I know an FSU fan that attributes their slide to recruiting fewer athletes from the Miami area.

1. they are not the 2nd best team in the state.
2. they can take athletes like the nad lickers who can barely read and/or write.
