How Many Area's Can Depth Help

I had just come to the realization that increased depth would help with many areas.

1) First and foremost our O line. Now it may be different with us (but I can't provide the info), but it appeared to me that most teams' scout teams were third stringers/redshirts. We lost two starters on the O line at one point, replaced those two, then had to bring in guys from the scout teams to be 2nd stringers. Now I may just be uninformed but that seems like awfully thin depth to me. Also, someone had stated that perhaps our O line didn't always perform their best because there wasn't much competition for their job.

2) Special Teams (at least on the return side of it). Most of the season our punt/kickoff returner was also a starter on the offense. Not only does this risk injury but it tires the player our (ie Jones dropped punt against UNC). Towards the end of the season we put in a senior (have no clue where he was on depth chart beforehand) just so we could have someone to just catch the ball (not drop it). Didn't work out great.

Anyone have some cool input involving info a lowly student like myself could pay money (if I had any) to get??

(1)That is correct! What has he won Alex?

(2)Melton and Roddy were returning punts because they could catch in practice and they have body control (body control is important for PR because you have to make the first guy miss). Andrew Smith returned punts against Ugay and LSU because Roddy was playing too many snaps, Melton was still not 100% healthy, and Andrew had done it some last year.
I suspect Marcus Wright will spend a lot of time fielding punts this spring. His size makes him tough to tackle on a punt and the fact that he will probably never be the "starter" at A-back means that he will be rested. He also has great open field speed, he just needs to learn how to catch.

And speaking of special teams, I think it is possible that if Sims or Aycock aren't in a position to be QB then it's possible one could be put on special teams. What gives me this hint is something said on ESPN and the fact that we are recruiting them as Athletes though we've stated they would be played at QB. I know it is probably false but an interesting idea.

p.s. That's right I do state the obvious sometimes.

Unless PJ sees something that will always keep them out of the QB spot, neither of them will play special teams their first year IMO. Qb's, as proven last year, are just too important to mess with.

Like I said in another thread that is exactly what Mike Sewak did with Jayson Foster at GSU.

Depth helps everywhere. But especially in areas where our guys aren't putting forth the effort PJ thinks they should.

With the number of youngsters on two deep, I look for us to "TRY" to redshirt as many as possible. I look for one of the QB's to possibly back up JN.
